If you remember, Carter was an impact player for the Bobcats as a Freshman making the All Freshman team, missed his sophomore year with an injury and averaged 16 points per game the following season before transferring when former Coach Saul Phillips was fired. At Xavier he averaged 5 and 6 points respectively the past two seasons as a starter but was plagued by injuries that effected his play. He is not sure if he is going to play another season but wants to see what his options are as he already has a Masters Degree. I'm wondering if he could get that same type of production back that he had at Ohio if he came back to play in the MAC?
Jeff Goodman is reporting That Carter is transferring back to Ohio.
Who wouldn't want a second chance to make-up those classes we skipped?
Ohio becomes the new bully of the MAC if true, with Buffalo likely #2 next season. If we don’t address the lack of a power forward next season then I fear we’re playing for an NIT invite at best.
it's true. boals has tweeted it. not sure if carter lost a step with injuries or just ceded playmaking more at xavier. he didn't seem as explosive. regardless, he's a veteran big with size and toughness who will give OU 3 good players to rotate at the 4/5 spots. I think they need another good shooter on the wing to be a complete squad. They basically didn't sub anyone in on the perimeter down the stretch other than playing a second pg in sears. Add in a solid 6-5 shooter to spell Mcday and Roderick and you got a rock solid 8 man rotation even if none of their other young guys make a big improvement. could be a top 25 type team and a key to the MAC breaking the 2 bid drought.
Still kinda surprised TK signed the big romanian. he must really like his upside, because the portal is loaded with more game ready big guys we could bring in for a year or two.
looking at the roster with 1 spot remaining to fill
5-Edu (romanian gets 6-8 minutes backup time)
4-Shumate (who was really good defensively on the interior when he wasn't matched up with a big muscular guy. if he can add 10 lbs of muscle he probably becomes the perfect stretch 4. if not, he's still good just less versatile defensively)
3-Milner
Jacobi gets some minutes backing up each while Moss fluctuates between the 2-4 depending on matchups
2-Saunders (wilson or farmer gets backup minutes)
1-rollins (hill gets 8-10 backup minutes or if he improves a lot plays 20-25 and rollins splits time at the 1/2)
I don't put in the Icelander simply because he's such a mystery man, but logically he might be the most likely to earn minutes. First, because he's a year older than the other incoming freshmen. Second, because he's played in pro and fiba leagues with the same 3 point line. so, his %s should carry over to D1. the HS 3 point line is a full step closer (2 feet 5 inches) and most of the 3 pt makes on a HS kid's stats are college 2 pointers. that said, I'm still wait and see on him.
I'd say there's 2 ways to go with that last scholarship.
either you add a transfer point guard to compete with Hill and allow rollins to move around and play all the guard positions. this gives us more playmaking and probably speed but means less opportunity for the other sg guys which could lead to a talented guy like saunders or farmer leaving after next year. also means a smaller lineup with less minutes for the forward trio of milner, shumate and jacobi. clearly, TK is considering this option since we are in the mix for the mike saunders, the really talented cincy transfer pg who most likely goes to a higher profile school.
or, you add an impact pf or post type transfer player, redshirt the romanian, and play 2 bigs (edu and transfer), milner at sf and have shumate sub at both the 3/4 in a 6th man type role. that's was similar to the plan for the 19-20 season before edu got hurt. TK was gonna play knapke and edu together, use more zone and control the boards but sacrifice some transition opportunities and quick offense. we are also considering this route based on the recruiting of the D2 PF transfer emanuel little.
