RE: Cincinnati bearcats basketball Maui Invitational in 2022
I loved Maui when I went nearly 2 decades ago. I want to go back. The ocean is my favorite place but I don't think iI'd lack ocean time by attending a few basketball games.
Biked down the volcano last time. Hiked the rainforest. Probably wouldn't go back to Honolulu. Too populated for me. Liked the Maui feel more. Glad I went once to see pearl harbor though.

spoiler alert, Maui has changed quite a bit over last two decades. You will be amazed at how much construction/ traffic, noise there is there now. Still beautiful but markedly different.

Yep, definitely getting developed quite a bit now. Not as much land to build on Oahu anymore, so more and more people are moving to Maui. Maui County's population has nearly doubled since 1990, versus only a 17% overall rise in population in the state since then.

Sad, but inevitable I suppose. It's close to two decades for us also and those oceanfront resorts outside Lahaina faced the Pacific with agricultural fields backed by undeveloped mountains (mostly agricultural) behind them. We commented at the time that we'd be surprised if those remained as farms or ranches much longer.
