Hopefully that works out better than it did for Zane Martin, when he left and went back to Towson

CAA MBB Transfers 2021
Another 6 degrees of separation grad transfer, Winthrop G Charles Falden (SR) has entered grad transfer portal. Time at Winthrop would have crossed with when Coach Howland was on staff there and Falden is from Richmond. Averaged around 10ppg as a Sr.

CAA MBB Transfers 2021
Jamie Shaw reports:
"Citadel grad transfer Kaiden Rice has another Zoom call set with South Alabama for tomorrow #AbsoluteBasketball

The 6-foot-7 wing carries offers from Arizona, Butler, Duquesne, South Florida, W&M, UAB, Loyola Chicago and Nevada"

Not sure if Shaw is misspeaking, but this is the 1st I've publicly seen that W&M has "offered" Rice.

Interesting point and great observation abt the offer and that is the first offer we would know about for a current transfer or additional 2021 recruit though we’ve definitely been checking in on them. This would mean we have an open roster spot that hasn’t been announced yet for next year since Luke’s leaving doesn’t factor into the other 13 scholarship spots we already had committed for next year.

I dunno....It's a rare opportunity to finally get to play on a team with your younger brother where you truly have a great fit. I imagine we're in serious consideration.

I've mentioned before, the Rice's are a close knit family. Some kids are all about getting away from home. Not the Rice's. You look at their social media and it is the brothers supporting each other, working out with dad, or their close bond with mom. Unless a local high major like the Gamecocks or Clemson come calling, I honestly think we could be the top option. We need an experienced shooter. His play fits right in. It's perhaps his last opportunity to play alongside his brother. The opportunity is there for mom & dad to attend every game. Sure, Arizona & Butler sound great, but I don't think he wants to be a plane ride distance from home. Hopefully we find out his plans soon.

Junior year highlights:

Jake Weingarten in a couple of tweets says Jarrod West has been contacted by West Virginia, GA Tech, Duquesne, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Florida, Georgetown, Ohio State, Texas, Rhode Island, and Wichita State. West is from WV and his father played for WVU.

https://mobile.twitter.com/jakeweingarte...0846855168

An article on Zagsblog says Jarrod West has received offers from Rhode Island, Louisville, Pitt, and Wichita St. West says he wants to commit “sooner rather than later.”

https://www.zagsblog.com/2021/03/24/mars...han-later/

The offer process with transfers is a little frustrating; some transfers keep getting offers but most never announce any offers even though they’re talking with schools and eventually commit somewhere. For WM it’s hard to know if a player they start following is a passing interest or someone they really want because we never hear of any offers.

Jake Weingarten tweets:

“ Marshall transfer Jarrod West tells
@Stockrisers
that Rhode Island and Miami both just offered and he will virtually meet with both staff’s tomorrow. In addition, he will also virtually meet with UF’s Mike White tomorrow as well.

Plus, Virginia and Vanderbilt have reached out.”

https://mobile.twitter.com/jakeweingarte...6098181121

Jarrod West will announce tomorrow. His final three are Louisville, Ohio St, and Pitt.

CAA MBB Transfers 2021
NC State PG Braxton Beverly has entered the portal as a post grad. If we are in the market for a 1 year rental at the PG spot we could do far worse. The Kentucky native prepped at Hargrave in VA. Averaged 25 minutes/game with 7ppg/3 assists. He is sure to have better options as a plug and play high major floor general.

OK, that was quick. He announced he's headed home to finish up at Eastern Kentucky.

Maybe he really just wanted to go home, but you'd think a guy like him would have bigger options.

Does go to show why the coaches are casting such a wide net, for every grad transfer we lose to a power program, one or two may slip through to the mid/low major levels.

There are so many options beyond simply level of play or ability to go deep in the tournament that go into a transfer's decision. Previous relationships with coaches and current athletes, proximity to home, and the ability to continue a degree in their major to name a few. Simply writing off a kid because he played in the Big10 or ACCbis short sighted and not doing due diligence.

Oh I agree. Sometimes it's a little discouraging to see grad transfers who were mid major role players seemingly all go to P6 schools, but it's nice to see someone who received good minutes at an ACC school go to the OVC.
