Just goes to show you how close we were
That would surprise me. It's hard to justify taking Denver this year. I don't know how the committee can say one league is THAT dominant in a year when OOC games weren't played.
This year will seem more like basketball.
Quote:Denver's David Carle acknowledged that when he said this week, "I like the Pairwise too. It removes all the b.s. of us standing here having to advocate for our team. But I'll go down swinging with this team."
You can make a lot of arguments for and against a system like the Pairwise that college hockey normally uses. But one thing about having a system that's entirely objective ā i.e. no opinions from a Committee when it comes to picking teams ā is it avoids this kind of spectacle. And it avoids the potential for animosity among leagues and teams that comes with the public posturing.

RE: Western Michigan vs Minnesota Duluth @ NoDak
The ECAC even having a "Playoff Tournament" and the 3rd place team "winning" an autobid with three teams makes this entire season absurd. I'd tell them to blow this year off, but with my luck, they'd replace the Pairwise with a subjective system going forward

RE: Western Michigan vs Minnesota Duluth @ NoDak
I would agree that we were very close. Our pod start put us into a hole that was difficult to climb out of. NoDak is clearly the best in our league and I believe that we are solidly in the 2nd group. UMD and StC were on most everyone's list to make the tourney and we were 5-4 vs. them with several very convincing wins.
Would have been interesting to see how it would have played out had we beaten UMD in OT and lost to NoDak in the final.

Four teams in, NoDak, St. Cloudy, UMD, and UNO. We were very close...in an off year.

I think AHL rosters and ECHL rosters are jammed full already . 3 AHL teams are not playing so they have placed their prospects on other teams and only half of the ECHL teams are playing . I don't think we will hear anything for a while .

Yeah, Iād guess Attard either choosing to sign with the Flyers or stay at Western will probably be the first news we hear.

RE: Western Michigan vs Minnesota Duluth @ NoDak
They put NoDak & Duluth in the same bracket. So, the #1 seed in the Tournament & the two time defending national champs will have to square off before the Frozen Four. Garbage.
And of course the 4 Big Ten schools gets 1 team placed in each region.

RE: Western Michigan vs Minnesota Duluth @ NoDak
Just like 1994. Michigan and Lake Superior State (old CCHA) were in the FF in 1992 and 1993. They did not play each other because Michigan lost in the semis twice and Lake State won in 1992 an lost in the title game to Maine in 1993. In the next season both were considered to be in the top 3-4 teams in the country and the committee put them in the same region at Munn Ice Arena to make sure only one would make the FF. Lake State won IIRC 6-5.
In St. Paul, Lake State beat BU 9-1 for the title and in the post game interview coach Jeff Jackson was asked who was the best team they played all year.....answer - Michigan - a straight forward way to point out the injustice.
I think the committee did a good job considering the circumstances but putting the odds on favorite and the defending champ in the same bracket could have been avoided

This year has shown us how lucky we are to have the Pairwise. This is the worst bracket i've seen in all the years I've followed college hockey.

RE: Western Michigan vs Minnesota Duluth @ NoDak
The Pairwise is a pretty good tool especially for balancing the rankings where inter league play helps to make more accurate comparisons. As it continues to be tweaked, it continues to be better. However, we have all seen that sometimes there is just a hair's difference between the last 3-4 teams in and the last few that miss.
I know I'm dating myself but remember when we just had the WMPL poll? It was conducted weekly by the radio station in Houghton/Hancock. I remember one time many years ago when a team won both of their games that week and dropped 2-3 spots in their top ten. Turns out one of the 6 voters was not polled that week. I think it only had the top ten.
We'll just have to see how this plays out. I always love to see the east/west matchups.

Lots of players entering the transfer portal, any chance WMU lands one?
