We need to fill 9 scholarships (maybe 8 if you avoid spending all your scholarships in a dumpster dive). If players have skills that translate to this level you have to take them and coach around their holes as much as possible.

I understand, but Brannen was signing them in spades before the defections and before Covid. In two years there were Jaevin, Vogt, Sorolla, McNeal & Ivanauksas. Not gonna succeed building a roster that way IMHO.

I agree but a lot of that is turnover due to a coaching change. He did sign a class full of freshman last year; just couldn't keep them happy. I don't think building around mid-major transfers is the long term plan.

Well, it’s apparently the plan again in year 3 of his tenure.

I think a great goal for 2021-22 is to just try to have less than 6 scholarships to fill after the season and to perhaps have some guys committed already before the season ends.

With 8 open scholarships I'm fine with it. Near 40% for a high volume 3 point shooter is pretty damn good. High volume shooters probably take more difficult shots as a whole. Kid took nearly 70 more threes than Davenport who was our highest volume shooter (davenport shot 38%). We need bodies and at least the kid seems to have one elite skill.

UC needs to get older faster. I am not sad that the players left I just wanted know why our staff recruited these guys and then couldn’t keep them. I have been all in on a complete roster makeover. I thought the entire roster this season was a disaster and was not one you could win with going forward. Now we get a do over to get it right. Brannen has to deliver or he is basically done here.

Not sure of your context for"older faster", but he seems to meet one or both your criteria (if they are separate.) And to mark's point it sounds like this kid may have some speed to go along with his clearly good 3 ball shooting.

I think that’s a gross over generalization. You can find quality players at that level. How about that Gorham kid for Houston? He was a monster this year for them. I’m not saying it’s easy- but you kind find dudes that can play.

I'm still pissed about not getting the Rowsey kid from UNC-Asheville a few years ago that lit the world on fire at Marquette.

Bolded, yep, X always seems to find low and mid major transfers who made life miserable annually for Cronin--and now Brannen. Some are trying to extrapolate a recruiting class profile from one commitment or tweet about a recruit of interest. Let's see how it plays out.

He is the kind of player that has a lot of upside, but we might not reap the benefit of it until his jr or sr year.
