A 6'1" 'shooter' who has a career slash of 39/36/81 in the SoCon...he'd essentially be a shorter Madsen with 4 less years of eligibility. Color me comotose.

With 8 open scholarships I'm fine with it. Near 40% for a high volume 3 point shooter is pretty damn good. High volume shooters probably take more difficult shots as a whole. Kid took nearly 70 more threes than Davenport who was our highest volume shooter (davenport shot 38%). We need bodies and at least the kid seems to have one elite skill.

UC needs to get older faster. I am not sad that the players left I just wanted know why our staff recruited these guys and then couldn’t keep them. I have been all in on a complete roster makeover. I thought the entire roster this season was a disaster and was not one you could win with going forward. Now we get a do over to get it right. Brannen has to deliver or he is basically done here.

I thought if he kept the young guys together and added some pieces that they could have enough talent to make the tournament probably in 22-23, maybe next year if things fell right. But I'm kind of with you here that this insane situation does present an opportunity to bring a few guys in who are ready to win immediately. Can the staff do that and then can they get everyone to play together? Seems like a big task, but we'll see. It's really the only path.

Alexis Yetna from USF just entered the portal. I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Definitely. He has size, athleticism, rebounds on both ends, blocks shots, scores efficiently inside and makes free throws. He'd be a huge add.

The rules make it that having a bunch of young guys is disaster because they can leave to another team. You absolutely need bring in older guys with multiple years a few grad transfers and a couple of freshmen. A program is not going to able build itself on large freshmen classes. My biggest issue is the staff knew covid would create a problem last spring, yet they didn’t fill needs or schedule correctly to give the young guys PT and confidence. They were still looking to play Loyola, Richmond, Louisville and Utah State along with what they did schedule. That is crazy and if they do it again this year you better hope the team is too 25 good on day 1.

The rumor going around is that one of Gregory's assistants made some racially insensitive remarks at practice and Gregory did nothing about it. Though if you go by number of transfers I guess it's currently a tie. Trashing a current player via text isn't a great look either I guess.

You're kidding right? The freshmen got a ton of minutes for freshman. The bigger issue in that group is Eason is the likely only starter short term assuming he could stay on the court. These weren't 5 star guys we brought in. They were all playing quite a bit. Who should have gotten more minutes that would not have fouled out? Maybe Harvey assuming he was healthy, but once he came back he was also getting close to 20.

They definitely should look to add 2 to 3 one year guys to get the classes back to some sense of balance the next couple seasons.

Not sure of your context for"older faster", but he seems to meet one or both your criteria (if they are separate.) And to mark's point it sounds like this kid may have some speed to go along with his clearly good 3 ball shooting.

What choice do we have at this point? We need bodies to fill out a roster. Probably a godsend to get that done in full. Can Coach Fick help us out?

Good coaching is often a lot about finding roles for guys that they can succeed at. Seems to me you wanted a Kunkel type guy for UC who might make the difference between winning and losing a few times during the season with his shooting (including 83.5% on FTs). This guy seems like he could be a nice fit for that role.

Rath is appropriately bitter about all of this. I nominate Mark to be shield anvil if we need one. This is not the siege of Capustan, we'll find a way to get better than this.

I wanted Kunkel in the role Mason Madsen ended up filling eventually. So I guess that worked out ok...except Madsen is already gone.

I didn’t want him as a starter.

This kid from the So Con will come here and start. It will be awesome.

Most of these midmajor transfers have trouble with the speed and physicality of the game. I don't see them as a long-term path to success, but I suppose Brannen needs to sign whoever he can get his hands on right now

We need to fill 9 scholarships (maybe 8 if you avoid spending all your scholarships in a dumpster dive). If players have skills that translate to this level you have to take them and coach around their holes as much as possible.
