I think the only reason I want to win is to see these guys so happy after they win. Davenport such a breath of fresh air.

Teams are now shooting 75.8% from the foul line against UC. That's insane. I think that's like 22nd least lucky nationally. It's even more insane because UC gets called for so many damn fouls teams shoot all the time. Really weird stat.

RE: Gamethread: Cincinnati at Tulsa
Another fun game to watch.

Team played hard. Too bad they played so un-intelligently the first several minutes of the game.

Even though he seems to always make such a poor percentage of his shots, I think this team needs Keith Williams to be an aggressive shooter, just because no one else on the roster is. Plus, Keith threw some beautiful passes tonight.

Loved Vogt's defense tonight. Wish he could make a foul shot or two. At least twice in the game he was thrown passes which he just plain dropped. Partly because they were iffy passes at best, partly because I think he was genuinely shocked someone threw him a pass (on a non-set play) instead of just ignoring him and driving to the hoop.

Madsen probably needs to be on the floor a lot more. Probably in tandem with Vogt, because Madsen seems slows on defense and he needs an eraser (or as close to one as we have) behind him.

Unexpected: I actually enjoyed Dan Dakich and his partner tonight, mostly for all the Seinfeld references.

Say what you want about CJB. But in that conversation you have to include his team has found ways to win 5 of 6 despite the challenges of keeping this team from packing it in. The Coogs game result was an anamoly. You can't deny 5 of 6 in the win column. That's not just from luck. Four games remain with three at home. You can just see and feel these kids coming together and gaining confidence. Buckle up for the ride gents. It will never be dull that's for sure...

Maybe they shoot well against us because they shoot so much. Easier to get in the groove when you shoot a bunch. I also thinl our tendency to give up drives to the baskets leads to other teams' guards shooting a higher percentage of the foul shots than usual.

Maybe the more you get there the better you shoot...kind of like in rhythm

Thought that was stupid from Tulsa to have Joiner, their best player, taking the ball out underneath with 5 secs left. Never got back to him.

In all honesty, Frank Haith sucks donkey balls. Tulsa should move on.

I haven't noticed a correlation with other teams to suggest that. Most likely it's just random luck. Though I have had a thought that because our guards give up too much penetration maybe part of it is we just foul better shooters. Though I still think it's more random luck than anything.

in the Houston game thread i wrote about how i wanted Coach Brannen to use KW differently. On my list was operating from the high post and KW pick and roll with Tari/Vogt. Saw some of both of those and Keith on the low block as well. i had a similar sentiment that an engaged Keith is the best version of him, warts and all. i thought this was really well done by Coach Brannen.

in addition to using KW in those different facets, i would like to see Keith used in some dribble handoff action from the high post. Maybe some two man dho game with Keith and JD or one of the other guards?

i also mentioned that if Madsen could get better at post entries, they could work two man with KW in the low post. in the post-game, Coach Brannen said what we all saw. That having Madsen on the floor took Tulsa out of the zone and opened up the floor for everyone else. He didn't get into why he wasn't on the floor in the second half as much, but the reality is that if Madsen is a floor spacer and handcuffs the opposing defense, he should be out there. You can't run p/r action against a zone effectively. Force the opponents to play man and you can do all kinds of action to get mismatches.

Last three UC at Tulsa games have been heartbreakers for the home team. Troy, Cane, and Jeremiah

It was a bit annoying how often he shat on UC early on but mostly because he was right.

I can definitely see a core of Davenport, Mika, Mason, Tari, and Saunders make the tournament by their Jr. and Sr. seasons. Brannen desperately needs to find some bigs though and more guys who can get an instant bucket off the dribble like Keith. I kinda hope at this point that Vogt takes the Covid year, he's gotten better on D and it's really hard to imagine there's a transfer lined up that will be significantly better at this point.

This team doesn’t have much talent but they don’t give up. They could have quit when the season obviously wasn’t going anywhere, but they keep playing hard.

I'm thrilled they won and that last play to go ahead was fantastic.

But, I'm sorry... they never should have been in that position.
