The SLC bylaws stipulate schools planning to leave are required to give two years notice or face a fine on top of exit fees. That’s what happened to Texas State when they left. This time around rumor has it the SLC wanted us gone sooner rather than later so apparently they waived the fine?

The schools have also been working on scheduling details. Football schedules and contracts had to be adjusted.

They did give a 2 year notice. I also heard the rumors regarding the SLC, so hopefully they worked it out and hopefully they are coming next year.

As for scheduling, why can't they keep their current schedule? They are all FCS teams with FCS schedules.

Re: scheduling. Why join a new conference if you aren’t busy going to play a conference schedule in your new home conference?

If this is how they think on the way in, this is also how they will think on the way out, when they leave us hanging.

What does this even mean?

I guess it is apparently a bad thing for conference members to want to compete against other conference members??????? A statement like the bolded one makes no sense.

I hope they join immediately. Why wait an extra season?

You are answering your own question. You said scheduling could be an issue. I disagreed and said they could keep their existing schedule. You wisely point out that they would play a conference schedule.

1. The TX4, at least, will undoubtedly already have several of each other on their current schedules. Simply keep those games and they will now be conference games.
2. Schedule remaining conference mates and replace the games that may have been problematic due to the move to the WAC.
3. Keep current SLC teams/games on already your schedule as OOC. Those SLC teams will need games as well.

I really don't think it's going to be that hard to put a schedule together.

Here is Dixie State’s schedule. I’ve bolded the new WAC. Inference games. To schedule Lamar, SFA and ACU they will have to cancel some of the remaining games with the potential of a cancellation penalty.

09/03 - at Southern Utah
09/10 - Chadron State
09/17 - at Weber State
09/24 - at Nicholls
10/01 - Tarleton State
10/15 - at Northern Iowa
10/29 - at North Dakota
11/05 - Sam Houston State
11/12 - at Idaho State
11/19 - at BYU

Here’s ACU’s existing schedule.

09/04 - at SMU
09/11 - at Southern Utah

The conference hasn’t set the fall 2021 schedule. Sure ACU can Easily add games games with Sam Houston, SFA and Lamar. Southern Utah was already on our schedule. After that it gets a little complicated.

Adding Dixie State is an open question. I’m not sure how set Tarleton’s schedule is at this point. Nor am I sure about the willingness of the schools we are abandoning to schedule us at this point, particularly for games at our place. And since we won’t still be conference mates will all games against ex Conference mat es be buy games?

I’m not saying it isn’t doable but neither is it uncomplicated.

Independence it is then. They will play 25 road games and 5 home games versus D2 teams.

Glad NMSU has their schedules largely built already. Maybe we can at least get more home football games. 2 for 1 home stands like we have with Hawaii could work.

2021 we have Dixie among 12 scheduled games

2022 we have an open date or 2 among 11 scheduled games- need more home games

2023 we have 9 games already scheduled games- need more home games

2024 we have Abilene in our 10 so far scheduled games

Two for one football games would be a nice gesture toward new WAC conference mates. FBS teams don’t normally schedule away games at FCS schools.

I don't think he meant FCS games. And I know NMSU would never play an FCS road game, COVID notwithstanding (we may have to play some this spring due to COVID restrictions in NM).

On subject of football scheduling, here's an example of what SHSU's fans are putting out.

Oh. I assumed he meant NMSU doing what it could to make this new arrangement work. Maybe not.

It was kind of a joke because I doubt NMSU would do it but it would add home game revenue. Though in football we will still not be conference mates. If its done with the 2 home games up front and a conference affiliation clause, chances of us having to ever go and play the returns will be slim because they'll all be in whatever new conference by that point. And like they say now, what sense would it make to play out your old schedules instead of playing your new conference mates--who ever they might be in a few years.
