Yes, y’all are now correct. Just as I was 30 min ago.

App St has a great class. Very deep. Overall, that’s the key, quality and depth. Though in this day and age, seems to lead to a bunch exiting.

We are very excited about the CCU class. Having an average ranking that rivals the best of the Sun Belt, is phenomenal for us. Upswing welcomed.

I think all the national pub the conference and teams have received this year has played into this for all the teams. Having a number of games on the national stage has been good for all of us.

The Cajuns have a lot of returning seniors so I think they are keeping the class smaller. I think they are also keeping some scholarships in their pocket for a possible transfer at what they consider a need position. The three current transfers (two today, one an earlier enrollee) WR from TCU (John Stephens Jr.) shows as .8735, the safety from Kansas State (Tyrone Lewis, Jr.) is 0.8573, and the earlier transfer TE from TA&M (Glenn Beal) is at .8723.

What I don't know is if they include those transfers into the accumulated ranking numbers somehow.

I think keeping a few is a smart play by anyone, especially considering that at 6pm the NCAA just approved the blanket waiver for everyone, all sports, for this year to transfer penalty free. Immediate eligibility for all. Boon to those hoops schools who took kids in hoping this would happen.

They had held off enacting in the spring, for fear whole football teams would bail on schools not playing.

Going to be a shopping spree now. If you got dry powder, have fun.

I think our downfall happened with the mismanagement of the roster. I think we took too many UAB guys when they shutdown. Joey tried a quick fix that cost us years later. Campbell failed to evaluate talent and went after too many guys that were barely FBS. We got the facilities from 0 to one of the best, hoping Womack can turn this around in a few years. I hope to see competitive team next year and then improve upon that.

In 3 years Kane Wommack should have South in pretty good shape. It'll probably take that long to clean up the mess that he inherited when he signed on.

RE: NDS2021
Our 4 Star QB Transfer from GT is obviously our biggest kid, and we got a LB transfer from Oregon.

USC pulled an offer from a 3 star WR, who then committed to us. Outside of our transfers, he is our highest rated recruit.

We signed (3) 3 star OL, and had (2) 3 star OL last year as well, so hopefully these guys continue to help improve our OL, which was obviously our weakest position group.

We also picked up one of the top kickers in the country.

Our other Dual Threat QB was signee Cam'ron Ransom. Kid had offers from Kentucky, BC, Coastal and Marshall. We should be more than set at QB for the next few years.

I'd like to start seeing us be able to snag a 4 star recruit here or there, and start getting some higher ranked 3 stars more consistently, but on paper, this class looks pretty good.

I think most of the SBC is pretty close in the talent they are pulling all together. I'm not sure a 1 point average difference is much of a difference at all.

If we can get our o-line looking good, and Ruse can put together a great offense around a 4 star QB, our offense should be looking pretty good next year... hopefully

Lowest rating recruit by year at App:

2014: Jalin Moore
2016: Darrynton Evans, Clifton Duck
2018: Cameron Peoples

May have heard of these guys.

Yeah, we got 1st this year, but let's wait a couple years to see how it translates.

Don't know that 100%. It's possible he wasn't happy with the uncertainty of the coaching change and decided to flip without the offer being pulled. It IS possible for a G5 to flip a recruit without him being hung out to dry.

First in the nation is very different from first in the SBC. Outside of the top 100 or so recruits in the country, I think the rankings are mostly a crapshoot.

I am just riding out the contract suck. We can only recruit as well as this staff can. And they are making it hard on themselves by avoiding Metro ATL.

yeah big difference between the team of people who manage the recruiting interests of the top fb schools and the team who manages the thousands of recruits going to not top fb schools. We go through this every year, and while fun you have to remember:

1. people who work for recruiting websites are subject to massive confirmation bias. They live in a world where teams X,Y,Z are good and if those teams offer a player then they are the top players and if they don't those players must not be as good. We've all seen it before where a player has already been "evaluated" as a 3 star but once they get that SEC offer overnight they turn into a 4 star player with no new film or anything.
2. The goal of the sites isn't to accurately evaluate players, its to sell subscriptions to the largest fanbases. Yes, the top teams generally get the best talent. But only so many kids can go to Alabama, Clemson, Georgia et al.

its always fun and i'm not lamenting having a great class on paper, but at our level the stars mean about as much we value our currency.

I trust our staff to find under appreciated talent that fits our O and D schemes. I really don't care how many stars they have. In fact, I hope the system keeps up and we keep getting NFL talent that is flying under the radar.

247 does a really good and in depth job considering all of the kids they have to evaluate.

There is no first in the Sun Belt this year as nearly everyone recruited at the same level with an average star rating of 82.

Our best class 2014-2018 (too early to judge anything beyond 2018) was easily 2017 with at least 4 first-team-all-conference-caliber guys. Yet it was the second-lowest rated of those 6 classes on 247. Just another of the long list of reasons I don't take recruiting rankings seriously.

Several years ago when App was in the middle of the FBS study I was tasked with reaching out to a few specific programs as to recruiting budgets. Talking to an Associate AD at UCF was eye opening. He told me their recruiting budget was practically nothing. Said they can drive to within 75 miles of campus and get every player they need.

Central Florida and North Georgia are just treasure troves. I mean literally you're talking about being in places that other programs across the country fly into.
