Maybe if we donate $20 to the supplemental scholarship fund, we can get an update on the app whether there is going to be a game today.

More Covid shaming.

Maybe we could just start running a virtual athletic program. Check out the app to see how the kids we would have recruited did today in a simulated game...but we'd probably find a way to lose.

Assuming they went through warm ups and pre-game already a 2-hour delay for a football game seems just as likely to me to open up greater chances for injury as a case in the midst. I don't see this happening. I'm gonna go sit in the rain and watch HS football!

I’d love some investigative journalism on this one. Feels like a FSU/Clemson situation to me.

Seems like it but the one thing that leads me to believe it might not be is that UTEP tweeted that it was a Covid issue within their program as well. So they seem to be going with the same narrative that Rice is putting out...

RE: Rice vs UTEP
Pure hubris from Rice to think delaying our season until the middle of October would allow us to get six straight games (or more) in unscathed. Now we are in an entirely predictable late fall / winter phase of uncontrolled Covid spread going into winter, which is multiples worse than what it was had we played in early September.

Really tough in the players. UTEP should cancel their season. Obvious the whole city are a bunch of idiots.

A bit off topic, sorry, but Rice football related, at least sorta.

Penn State just tied our number of wins by dumping Michigan, 27-17. Texas blew a game to Iowa State yesterday. Harbaugh and Mensa were two coaches that attracted a fair amount of love on here at times of previous head coach openings here. They may both be available soon, and we are tired of Bloomgren. Anybody want either one of them?

So I guess we will abandon the "young, hungry assistant" plan?

How many games can you play and still get a redshirt? If guys on their final year want to come back next year, seems a shame to waste a year of eligibility on this season that probably should have been cancelled.

Anyone who regards the pandemic that has claimed 272,000 American lives as little more than an annoyance is not just "deplorable" but evil.

You can say that again. Shake my head every time I hear/read someone downplay this thing.

RE: Rice vs UTEP
Musing a bit about the rest of the season....
I noticed that the UTEP game is listed as “canceled”, as opposed to “postponed”, the category that the UTSA and LaTech games are in. ‘Not sure if those terms actually mean something or whether they’re just terms of convenience, at present.
On the Rice website, we continue to list Marshall (Dec 5) and UAB (Dec 12) on our remaining season weekends. No mention of the aforementioned “postponed” games with UTSA and La Tech (or poor “canceled” UTEP).
CUSA still lists the CUSA Championship game to be played on Dec 18.
Because of turmoil in this season’s schedule, the range of conference games played (so far) is 3 (Rice and Charlotte) to 6 (UTSA). The TOTAL games that each team has played so far ranges from 3 (Rice) to 10 (UTSA).
So... any thoughts on where the season goes from here?

Each team plays the games that they can and then each division leader (percentage of wins) meets on Dec 18?
Delay Championship game till everyone can complete the schedule and play a delayed Championship?
Put an asterisk on the season and give everybody participation trophies?

Lots to think about.
Oh, and I’ve heard that there’s this virus going around that could affect a lot of games in December.
So, there’s that.

No neither, because after any sliver of success, they’d be gone before you could say Rice Fight Never Die. Give me a staff of Owl Alumni and TX HS coaches.

I'm pretty sure any seniors who want to come back next year can without penalty. Underclass guys are probably still subjected to a 4-game rule? 4 or less and they can redshirt. But you also have total scholarship figures to keep track of, so some guys who might want to play another year might not have a spot (or scholarship) available.

Looks pretty likely that we'll be at 4 games or less for the season anyway. I suppose 5 is still a possibility but not much of a possibility IMO.
