BLASPHEMER!!!
We've got a Tops just down the street, and I've eaten at various Tops probably 100 times in my life... but I've never had a desire to try the burger. There's just something that feels wrong about going to a BBQ joint and ordering a beef hamburger.

I get that.
But trust me. If you like griddle hamburgers (like, on a flat griddle, full of grease), they can not be beaten. My pro tip.... ask for "extra seasoning", which means extra salt and pepper.

It's a Sysco burger.
They do the best they can with it.
And when I actually went to my office to work, I ate a Tops burger once a week.
But it's still a frozen patty of processed meat.
It's embarrassing to tout it to outsiders as something awesome about our city.

I question the accuracy of your assertion they are frozen. But even if they are, they are not put on the griddle frozen. I have seen them take the patties out of the low-boy 1000s of times and put them on the griddle.
Look it's not a gourmet burger. Nor is it touted as such. It's just a good ol' greezzzy griddle burger like God intended.

'Everybody' uses Sysco around here unless they are raising their own grass fed cattle or buying from those who do. Japanese, who own some pretty big spreads in NorCal and other small ranchers, have very strict standards for raising cowmeats.
But Sysco's unRefrigerated storage sheds containing raw meats and seafood that conveniently bypass all gov inspections were found in my neck of the woods about 6 years ago (~ 20 of them).....They got fined 19+ mill and 'vowed' to stop.
lol Sysco Corp called them “drop sites” for smaller orders that were not large enough to warrant big refrigerated trucks and they were doing it every where across the U.S.

Tops own website states they use fresh ground. I remember reading it comes from Charlie’s. Don’t know if the latter is true, but that would explain how they became one of the most popular In Memphis. If they could achieve that distinction by tossing a frozen Sysco burger on the grill, everyone would do it.

Dude.
That website is lying, if it says that. Just look at the burger. It's mass produced. Perfectly round and perfectly a half inch thick. Same size every time. It might be all beef, but it ain't always fresh ground in the true intent of that statement.
Now I don't intend to die on the Tops hill. As stated earlier, I eat them as much as the next guy. The place on Summer always fries their crinkly fries perfectly crispy. And you get 2 sides with the combo.
But it should never be considered a top 10 burger in Memphis. And you should never talk it up to visitors, because they won't get it.

I admit, I don't know if it's frozen. But I've seen the Sysco truck there plenty of times, and I thought their goods always arrived frozen.
I will take Tops above any national fast food chain anytime - except Whataburger, In/Out, and Shake Shack (none of which are national). It just doesn't compare to other locals like Hueys, for instance. My actual favorite greasy burger was Sear Shack, but COVID got them.

They offer both.

I too liked Sear Shack. Wayback Burgers is a nice greasy alternative (as well as Steak 'n Shake in a pinch).

Most restaurants portion their burger patties with a uniform metal ring.
And plenty of restaurants use Sysco, but don't use Sysco for everything they order.

although my fast food experience is limited to chicken, its pretty easy to make a uniformed, 1/2 burger, EVERY TIME with a burger uniform metal thingy.
