Uh huh.... so basically your point is entertainment is more important than safety. Even though they can spread the disease and even though there is a good chance we can limit the deaths by shutting down this joke of a season we should still play because money and your selfish need for entertainment trumps lives.

It’s ironic that this is coming from a school who can’t even handle their own covid out break and has already had to cancel games.

Sent from the warp via the ruinous powers of chaos.

It's apparent you don't read or comprehend well so I've bolded the contradictory statement you made versus what I just said. Just the opposite of your conclusion - the players are safer practicing & playing.

But they aren’t as safe if they don’t play at all... if they are isolated from people it limits the spread. As we have already seen alot teams are canceling because of positives. This could be avoided if they were isolated and didn’t play the season at all.

Sent from the warp via the ruinous powers of chaos.

False. You can get the virus just as easily from a trip to Walmart as you can from a trip to the endzone. In fact, outside of school athletic programs, people arent being tested multiple times a week. So, in the outside world, you arent protected from peers, co-workers, family, and friends who might be carrying the virus but arent aware of it (because they arent regularly tested like members within the athletic department are). The fact is, college football players within an active athletic program are probably LESS likely to contract the virus than people in their peer age group who are not in an athletic program. Furthermore, because players are in good condition and have few (if any) underlying conditions, they are even less likely than other kids in their age group to suffer severe medical consequences as a result of infection. Those are the facts.

I agree you are just as likely to get it at walmart. Which is why EVERYTHING should have been shutdown until next year. But that’s a whole other issue. Even if they are less likely there is still a chance they will get it. Even worse because of their health they may not take it as seriously and end up spreading it to those who are more prone. College kids are exactly renowned for their maturity or ability to be responsible.

I respect your stance, but ultimately I think the longer this goes on the more we will regret it. What may be even more ironic is in our attempt to have a college football season to “save” college football we may end up destroying it. Although all this will probably end up being a mute point anyway. I very much see a complete shutdown of everything coming soon within the next coming months until a vaccine arrives.

Here you go.

That's the same modeling people (at U of Washington) who predicted 2.2M deaths by July, when this started back in March.

And even if we somehow had 200K more deaths by January, the stats on young people likely won't change.

But it will be because we didn’t limit the spread. So it will definitely happen if we continue on with this sport rather than do the right thing and cancel. Too many people care more about money than safety. It’s time people in charge take over and force people to do whats right.

Sent from the warp via the ruinous powers of chaos.

There was never a plan to limit the total number of infections because there isnt any way to do that beyond a permanent shut down. The only plan that exists is to flatten the curve---which doesn't really reduce the total number of people who will eventually be infected---it just spreads the same number of infections over a longer period so the healthcare system is not overwhelmed. Only a vaccine can actually lower the total number of people who will eventually be infected.

Which is why we should have shutdown until the vaccine came out next year. But we have already seen how shutdowns work in New Zealand.

Sent from the warp via the ruinous powers of chaos.

We didnt do that because the long term effects of a one year shutdown would have killed more people over a decade long depression than the short term deaths we are seeing from Covid. Look, I know everyone wants to say that life is more important that economics---but thats not the truth and never has been. If it were, we would never willingly send men to war over economic differences (like communism or oil) and we would shut down every fall so 60K wouldnt die from the flu every year. We would outlaw trucks and cars, so 38K wouldnt be killed on our highways every year in the US. How far do you want to take this?

The reality is we pick economics over life every day without giving it a second thought--because we have to do so in order to survive and to have any sort of life worth living.

You guys are still arguing with that clown? He’s just upset because no one is giving in to his temper tantrums. He hates that the NBA, NFL, MLB, and NCAA are all playing. Poor guy.

Don’t you guys know that the virus will disappear if we stop playing college sports? It’s not like kids at campuses across America are throwing COVID parties. They won’t have those parties any more if we just cancel all sports.

That seems like a really outdated way of thinking.

Just as people have learned to deal with the new “normal” people would learn to deal with long term shutdowns. We have accepted the flu deaths so why can’t we accept “shutdowns” to save lives far beyond what the flu kills? California is outlawing most cars and hopefully self driving electric cars will fix the accident problem.

I say we take it as far a necessary to be safe.

The fact that Covid kills old people at a higher rate than the flu doesn't impact the ability of college students to return to school or play football.

Ya but they can spread it to old people as asymptomatic carriers. But hey who cares about old people as long as we get sports right?

Sent from the warp via the ruinous powers of chaos.

Recent research shows that young people don't spread the disease efficiently, if at all. And if you have older people (70+) in the family, keep them away if you're concerned.

I'm 73. I haven't seen my grandkids since this started.

That doesn't mean we can't play football.

Face it. You didn't hear anything about Houston football being canceled. You just made it up b/c you don't think they should be playing.

I mean if you discount on all the fellow coog fans on coogfans.com and the various Facebook groups calling for the season to be canceled then sure I made it up. Unlike you I trust the science of doctors and they are saying it will get worse.

Sent from the warp via the ruinous powers of chaos.

BS. You originally made it sound like something official at Houston.

And don't be lecturing me about not following science. I'm quoting research and providing links. You're talking out your butt with an obvious agenda.

Yup. His original post made it seem like he was in the know with actual people that were responsible for actually cancelling a season. And then once everyone called him on his BS because of his lack of knowledge of the free eligibility that the NCAA passed, he showed what his true agenda was. Just another Coronabro. Wants everyone to hide in their basement until this thing is over. Or until we have a vaccine. P.S., we may never have one.

Thank you for proving why everything needs to be shutdown. I forgot about the covid parties but thats a great example of why college players can’t be trusted to make the situation worse.

Not sure where you got the idea that I hate that professional sports are playing... you seem to have just made that up to fuel your hate filled argument against me.

People like you are dangerous to society. You could care less about others... all you care about is yourself. I take you think this is all a hoax.

But hey the president said injecting bleach will help cure corona. Maybe if everyone did that we could get over this pandemic faster haha!

Weird. I see 19 Top 25 games being played on Saturday.

Weird I don’t see any games that UH has played...

Are you going to provide those examples you called me, or are you can you just admit you insulted me simply because you disagree and can’t stand it.

Lol. This is my last back and forth with you. Since when does UH define an entire college season? LMAO. I’m as big of a UH homer as there is, but come on. Don’t worry. UH still has games on their schedule. Try not to get too upset when you see them on the field. It’ll only hurt for the first few minutes. You’ll get over it, I promise.

And what examples do I need to point to? They’re all in this thread. You want everything shut down. And no one living their life. I’m so sorry that this is happening to you. People not living in fear. Gotta be tough to swallow.

That’s what I thought. You call me names and make claims about me but when called out you can’t back any of it up.

We don’t have to agree that’s fine. The world is more interesting when people don’t agree with each other. But please try to avoid the name calling in the future it just makes you look juvenile.

As much as I wanted to see UH play this year the reality of the pandemic and the lack of sports because of said pandemic has made me realize that I can survive without sports. If everything has to be shutdown to make the world safer than so be it. Unlike in the past, I can actually deal with no sports for a while. Maybe it would help if others accepted that sports being shutdown again is better for the country and it’s safety.
