Yup. From App's perspective, that cannot feel good at all.

UVA feels more confident playing VMI over us, most likely because we handed VT that L.
Wake feels more confident playing ODU than playing App St and getting handed that L.
Hopefully we shock their asses and still hand them that L.

We are closer to Wake than App St and easier drive. That was one of the determining factors.

Norfolk is 4 to 5 hours from Winston-Salem, depending on traffic. Boone is 90 minutes straight down U.S. 421. Maybe if the game was in January and Boone was snowed in that'd be true.

It really boils down to ODU was an easy series to figure out since we can just swap the host order. This game for App and Wake was to be the second in a home-and-home, so there was no obvious answer.
And I’m not sure why App is upset. They ended up extending the series with Wake because of this. Hard to say that happens without the cancellation.

Im confused. App is another 90 minutes further than Wake.

I think DaBig misunderstood which school had the decision to make. He is talking as if ODU got to pick between games against Wake or App, when it was Wake’s call.

Having a few friends here in central NC who are ASU alums and fans, it's that respect thing. Feeling disrespected plus reasonable belief that ACC teams are now afraid of ASU since they beat UNC last year in Chapel Hill.

Looks like we may actually play this year. Now we need to scrounge up 3 more games. At least 1 should be FCS. Who can we book? Campbell? Charleston So? Citadel? Does ECU have any dates available? That’d be a no brainer. Temple? App? Ga St? Coastal? LU?

Would be shocked if any FCS teams are playing in the fall with the postseason postponed at minimum. With no or few fans onsite, I don’t really see the point of a robust OOC schedule. I suspect this is still headed to a wholesale postponement but if it isn’t, I don’t see the financial logic of a full schedule at this point.

If they have the bowls, Getting to 6 wins would be important.

Which is the other thing, are they even going to have bowls outside of maybe the P5 ones? If the MAC no-goes on fall football at least a few bowls will struggle for matchups, and are cities going to bother with the games if there’s no or limited fans?

RE: ODU Football Future OOC Schedules
CUSA said the conference schedule would begin on Sept. 12, but they didn't say everyone would be playing an in-conference game that day.
So in addition to the above dates, Navy lost their Sept. 12 game against Lafayette, and while it's not official, I have to think there's a good chance that with the FCS postseason no longer happening in the fall, U.Va. is likely going to lose VMI on that date. If the MAC shuts down as has been rumored, Pitt loses Miami (Ohio) and Boston College loses Ohio. If Sept. 19 becomes an open date for ODU depending on the CUSA schedule, Clemson and UNC are still looking and FSU and Notre Dame might lose their games.
The question is, will it be economically feasible for ODU to play a 12-game schedule if there's no or limited fans? Nobody's paying out 2019 money on a buy game for a nearly or completely empty stadium.
If we're actually going to go through with a full season (which I sincerely doubt but we've already tilled that land), it would make sense to have it go through the winter with at least one bye week between each game to account for COVID quarantines and provide baked-in make-up dates. But with the ACC already releasing its close-to-normal schedule, that's not happening.

Surprisingly, Harry been stumping hard for cancelling the season for quite some time. I don't disagree, but it surprises me given his position.

Seems pretty clear to me Wood wants to cancel the season, but will do what CUSA mandates. I have a strong feeling he’s likely lobbying for CUSA to do the same as the MAC.

That's my read on it as well. I'm sure the school allows Harry some editorial latitude given his long career in journalism, but he's an ODU employee posting on an ODU-branded social-media account. He's not going to post something that contradicts the school stance, unless it's a canary in the coal mine to see how it plays.
