Bullpen tonight: 3 IPs 1H 0ER 0BB 6Ks and didn't need to use Amir or Strop.

Lead all of baseball in OPS+ at 264 and with a 1.343 OPS coming into tonight. Up to 1.374 OPS per your stats after tonight (including another HR) so he's likely still leading the league in both related stats.

Bullpen tonight: 3 IPs 1H 0ER 0BB 6Ks and didn't need to use Amir or Strop.
Quick follow-up: how 'bout Nate Jones? Thom sounded like he was ready to faint when Bell brought him in to pitch the 8th with a 1 run lead considering Amir and Strop for example were both available. He hit a guy in the foot and then a nearly tailor-made double-play ball took a bad bounce and went for a hit instead, putting guys on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Then he strikes out 2 iirc including Lindor and escapes the inning unscathed.
Ballsy move by Bell (who said post-game that the entire bullpen was available tonight) who has taken a lot of flak over his use of the bullpen.

I'll give Bell some credit there and I don't blame him for all of the pen's woes. I've had more of an issue of when he has brought in the pen. Some of our guys need to step up and just pitch better than they have.
ERA
2.25 Nate Jones
3.00 Amir Garrett
6.23 Iglesias
12.27 Lorenzen

Nicky C. is just other-worldly right now. Named NL player of the week, he smashes his 6th dinger and is batting at a .400 clip. Can't wait until Suarez's bat shows up.

Reds are going to have the best starting pitching in baseball through a week and a half and be under .500. Just unacceptable performances from everyone in the bullpen

In addition to the puke pen, the bats are underperfoming big time. Outside of Nicky C, Senzel and Votto there is no one else sniffing a consistent bat right now.

I feel the same way as you but it's a crazy game. It's not like the bullpen was getting smacked around - if Galvis doesn't make an error and that HR was a few feet shorter we might have had a 2-0 victory and we'd all be feeling like "oh yeah, here we go!" But the above happens and the pen walks 4 guys and all of the sudden we're not happy with any aspect other than the starting pitching. (To be 100% clear, I'm including myself in this btw.)
Reds have 15 of the next 21 on the road iirc. When that ends they'll be more than halfway through the season.

Well put and I agree. I mean, part of me bitchin' and moanin' is I actually still care and I want this franchise to turn it around. There's still time this season but not a lot of it....

If you're looking for some bullpen help the Cubs closer should be available.

Normally I'd be all gung-ho on blaming Bell but I'm not sure what he is supposed to do with the bullpen as its been constructed. He shouldn't have to worry about dudes in his bullpen pounding fastballs into the dirt 5 feet away from the catcher on a 3-2 pitch in the 7th inning because they are excited. He can't use Garrett every single situation.

I think their best bet is to fake positive COVID tests for the bullpen guys every other day to try and get as many 7 inning double headers as possible so the starters can just go the distance.
