If You Send In Your Resume And Your Name’s Jamal, You Might Not Get Called Back
President Obama: "If you get on the phone, applying for a job, send in your resume, if your name is John, you might get called back. If your name's Jamal, you might not."
What a lousy, out of date complaint. But on the other hand maybe Jamal will get a call back. Who knows, is he qualified?
So the solution, not suggested, is name your kid Pete instead of Loquacia or Malice!!

Mr. Affirmative Action President himself.
Considering many corporations/universities choose diverse candidates all the time over say white/asian with the same credentials or even worse credentials this is total BS.
Now with private businesses I'm sure there are examples of this and I'm sure there are examples of minority owned business choosing their own kind as well. In both cases, choosing someone because of their name or color of skin is obviously idiotic and a bad business decision.
Similar to how Biden has said his VP will definitely be a woman. Well you disqualify 50% of people for what reason? Choose the best f***** candidate numnuts whether they Male/Female/White/Black/Hispanic/Asian etc.

Let’s be honest here, a white guy named Jim Bob or a white woman named Misty is probably not getting the call either. What you name your kid matters whether we want to admit it or not.

my mother came with this wisdom long ago....."michael, how you name your children is extremely important!"
I only have one....I spent a week making two selections...the ex didn't have a say other than approval... if boy, then Jack....if girl, then double syllabic with silent vowel on the end...
RE: If You Send In Your Resume And Your Name’s Jamal, You Might Not Get Called Back
Let's be honest. If you send in your resume, you probably aren't getting called back anyways. You better network your ass off before hand. The resume thing is just a formality.
RE: If You Send In Your Resume And Your Name’s Jamal, You Might Not Get Called Back
I'd probably have more sympathy if black people used authentic sub-Saharan African names, but you won't find any person in Kenya or Uganda whose name is Darquavius or Latisha.
Don't hurt your kids needlessly with silly names.
And yes, the same goes for some white millenials who are going out of the way to give a name because they think it sounds cool or is unique or whatever. They're no better.

Well. You must remember the two having the conversation have NEVER applied for a job and needed a resume in either one of their lives.

But the woke crowd now wants to do away with blind auditions for orchestra because it has resulted in less than 1.5% black and Hispanics being selected. So, a system set up to rid favoritism and discrimination is now not anti-racist because they don't like the outcome. Maybe black, brown, and, yes, white kids need to spend more time practicing the cello like Asian kids do.

Another side to the story...
I recall reading a report where traditional black names were discriminated not only by whites, but also by blacks.

Yeah some of these names I’ve seen for these white suburban kids are awful. That being said, the post millennials/young Gen X’ers have gone back to some traditional names. Just yesterday my wife and I were laughing because my 9 year old was playing with his friends named Ralph, Archie, Charlie and Henry. It is right out of the 50s which isn’t a bad thing.

That's crazy. In my younger years I played percussion and had to try out a bunch of times. It was cut-throat. No niceness about it. They point at you and say out. That was it you where cut.

Had a black buddy and we were waiting for a business meeting together. I have a fairly unusual name and he is named Jamal after a historic figure, I forget who. We were talking about names and he said black people have lost their damn minds with the crazy made up names and shook his head. I nearly fell out of my chair.
Normal folks are normal regardless of race. Dont get baited into the foolishness.

Says the man whose name resembles one of the most notorious terrorists in the history of the world, during the time of his terrorism, and somehow ended up President.

Lol, reminds of the early 1990s movie “House Party” starring Kid & Play. Kid tells his pops he is goin to hang with his friend Bilal and Robin Harris’ line is “I don't know why they named that boy that African name. Knowing he from Cleveland!”
RE: If You Send In Your Resume And Your Name’s Jamal, You Might Not Get Called Back
If you think for a second giving your child a name like Marquis, D'Shawn, Aaliyah or Precious does not hamper them in life?...You are sadly mistaken. Its completely wrong to be judged by a name..but the reality is that there are plenty of people in positions that look for this and other clues when looking at applications for employment, loans...ect. I have a black co worker that discussed this with me. He named his son Lewis and his daughter Lisa. He said they specifically chose names in which were vanilla in nature for this exact reason.
