As long as you don't share equipment and come in close contact. Guess that means golf and e-sports.

I will say, my golf game has never been better. I've played more in the last three months than the past three years combined.

So, this is about the UK, but it probably isn't far-fetched to think the same might be true here.

Isn't it interesting how every single thing that the media and "experts" have been wrong about was wrong in the same direction?

I can't wait until we can talk sports and stop all this political BS. I would be okay if we just shut this thread down.

You mean before people come un here celebrating as if they were right about the virus while there are 100k dead US citizens?

The “media” projected 60k deaths with social distancing and we are at 100k at the moment. Which direction is that?

Accusing anyone of celebrating at a time like this is just as productive as accusing others of being disappointed that the data seems to show we are coming out of this mess. Namely, it’s not productive.

No one is gloating about being right. And, I don’t think any on here are disappointed that the numbers are decreasing. We’ve disagreed from the beginning as to what the proper measures of dealing with this should be. That hasn’t changed. But, hopefully, we can all see that it’s a good thing that we’re moving in a direction back toward normal.

No one is celebrating. This virus has been an utter disaster no matter what your particular leanings. (Unless I suppose if your are a nihilist who WANTED to see the nation brought to its knees.)

But, to be fair Giles, you'd better brace yourself for the more-than-justified blow-back regarding the absolute clumsiness of the response - - complete with ginned-up hysteria, moving goalposts, and a near catastrophic crippling of our economy for absolutely no meaningful benefit - - at least not one that doesn't require us to pretend that deaths would have otherwise been in the millions had we not all been treated like disobedient children.

The way that this virus was mishandled will a one day, generations from now, be treated in the history books as something of a joke on how absurdly ignorant the population was in the early 21st century.

It absolutely has been an unmitigated disaster and people can blame whoever they want. My viewpoint is people didnt take it seriou enough early on and that put us behind the 8 ball. People can decide whether our president mocking the virus for weeks helped or hindered our progress.

Im nOt sure that there would have been millions dead with no social distancing measures; non of us know that. Its not hard to see a scenario where there were significantly more deaths if nothing were done.

I have no problem with the opinion that the impact in the economy made social distancing the wrong decision (i disagree, but understand that viewpoint). Its irritating to read mock the virus as if it is not substantial when we have >100,000 dead and likely many more due to the virus.

I would love for it to have been a media overreaction, But it was clearly not. Im excited that the numbers are dwindling and hopefully it holds form with phase 2 implementation. Im sure as hell ready to get back into the office and eventually have work to return to. My first priority is the safety of my employees so we need to figure out when and how it is safe to return.

No, they predicted like 2 million then 200k, then 60k. So, out of all the death predictions they were wildly overestimated for most of the time, then briefly underestimated... Just wondering, are you this appalled when 70k die from the flu in a year?

That piece is really well done, and we will see a lot more like it. They are a bit ahead of us in Europe on asking these questions, but we'll get there.

The 60k estimate was based on social distancing measures. The much larger estimates were based on no social distancing measures. Im not sure how people dont understand that.

Between 12k and 60k per year die from the flu according the the CDC article I just read. (30k in 18/19) Ideally it would be zero but that is a hell of a lot less than deaths due to the coronavirus while people have been social distancing, which likely saved hundred of thousands.

Because we have actual real world examples of life without major social distancing in both the US and Europe and they basically look no different than life with social distancing as far as numbers go. We also see states opening up "too early" and they have seen no spikes. I will grant that NYC needed a brief lockdown, and a few other hotspots may have warranted very brief lockdowns. I am pretty surprised that you will not grant that all of the smaller, more spread out towns in the US did not need these lockdowns. This thing is winding down and VB has seen 23 deaths. Norfolk, less than 10. The vast majority of America looks like that.

I agree. Interesting article.

I just skimmed it tonight, but I will read it more carefully tomorrow.

Our Governor completely botched this. I don't know how anyone could ever tell me that Northam handled this well. I have nobody to blame but myself, as I voted for the man. Ron DeSantis has been the guy everyone should be applauding.

I just skimmed it tonight, but I will read it more carefully tomorrow.

This article should be required reading for every gov't official and every media flack that had any hand in pushing this destructive and unnecessary lockdown upon us. If any poster has not read through it, please do so.

Just two selected snippets:

Quote:[W]e put billions of young healthy people under house arrest, stopped cancer screenings, and sunk ourselves into the worst level of unemployment since the Great Depression. This from a virus that bears a survival rate of 99.99% if you are a healthy individual under 50 years old.

* * *

There were, of course, people warning us all along. Among them was as John P.A. Ioannidis of Stanford University School of Medicine, who ranks among the world’s 100 most-cited scientists on Google Scholar. On that pivotal day of March 17 he released an essay titled “A fiasco in the making? As the coronavirus pandemic takes hold, we are making decisions without reliable data” — but it got little attention. Mainstream media was not interested in good news stories or dissenting views. The world instead marched lock step into its man-made calamity.

Thanks for posting, Coach. It unfortunately will be a very long road back to recovery from this mostly self-inflicted mess.

And oddly, because everything that is up is down and everything that is down is up in this crazy world, Desantis is the bad guy with low approval ratingz, while Cuomo, whose policies on nursing homes directly resulted in deaths, has an 80% approval rating. Just shows what a media driven narrative can do.

Don't you think it is important to discuss the failures in how this was handled so that we can hold our elected officials and media accountable, and ensure that everyone does a better job with the next crisis?
