RE: Tyler Harris transfering ?
UAB had 4 guards average double figures last season. 2 were freshmen and 2 were juniors. Unless something changes I think Tyler would have trouble starting there.

UAB was also terrible.

Somebody has to score...Even on bad teams.

RE: Tyler Harris transfering ?
I see we still have our favorite posters here who label transferring during an off season as quitting.

I can only surmise that all those mental giants are still working at their first job, dating the first person they ever called a girlfriend or boyfriend, still watch Sesame Street and more.

Some kids stay with a team and excel, some transfer and excel. Some stay and do poorly, some transfer and do poorly. In a vacuum transferring is NOT some sign of disloyalty or weakness.

Harris was a boon to Memphis, worked his ass off, was constantly berated for being shorter than most, because calling a college kid a midget is just oh so funny. It is especially funny for Memphians to needle a shorter player from Memphis with such witty shots.

Larry Kenon transferred TO Memphis. So have many others since. Give it a rest. Good luck Tyler.

Probably for the best for him. I think he needs to be in a situation where he can dominate the ball more to maximize his game, but if we are talking about Tigers basketball competing for championships that can't be here.

Pretty much sums it up. If we give Tyler the amount of time and shots it seems he wants we are playing for 5th place in the American.

Yeah he did; but it was from Amarillo Junior College. Which is what you do after two years of JC.

Not the same for your comparison though.

I simply used him because he is the oldest player I can remember who transferred in to Memphis. There have been a LOT of others, and the default that they are quitters is wrong.

And, in terms of Kenon, he left Memphis a year early in an era when that was much less common. In no way was he or Michael Dixon or Ricky Tarrant or Shaun Taggart or Eliot Williams quitters.

RE: Tyler Harris transfering ?
I wish him the best. You could tell he was a loyal Tiger by the way he acted in post game interviews. He just got into a situation where he was going to get less minutes and he wanted to seek a better opportunity to play more. We lost two QB's in football for the same reason. When you are a top program...losing good players because they will not have much playing time is actually a GOOD situation because it opens up scholarships. Losing good players because the don't like the coach.....not so good.

I agree. There was some over the top annoying poster... I can't remember her/it's name... But she wouldn't quit calling Austin Nichols quitter boy... So I guess that makes her not a quitter

RE: Tyler Harris transfering ?
I believed before the season started that Tyler would benefit the most from having Wiseman and Precious and I believe that he was hurt more than anyone when Wiseman quit on us. He would have had a lot more easier shots, and would have made a pile more of them.

He wasn't consistent, but he for sure won a few games for us, and he came on board when we really needed him. He would have ended up being a terrific 4 year player if he would have stuck around. I wish him luck.

He averaged 8.7 points, not double digits.

Big time liability on defense, just too short to help us win at a high level. If he couldn't shoot a high percentage (which he couldn't) there was nothing he could do to impact winning for us. He should have been coached to be a PG. Too small for anything else.

But he could go to a school like UT Martin, Austin Peay, etc and be a superstar at the SG position for them and help them win their league.

I have a ex-coworker who follows Memphis HS basketball with a passion. I touch bases with him every basketball season to get his take on the various players I hear about. I clearly remember him hoping Harris wouldn't go to a Baylor or Memphis, and would go to either Western Ky, Murray State or UAB-type. But he knew Harris couldn't due to the hype he was getting. He would tell me that at a smaller program Harris had national leading scorer potential, but would get lost in the mix at Memphis. He was prophetic on that one.

Tyler committed to us when we really needed him. He played his heart out. He’s leaving now to do what is best for him and the Tigers. He wants more PT. He needs it to get his ***** off. Hope he lights it up wherever he goes. Good luck Tyler! I know you will do well!

I always appreciate the hometown young men wanting to play for the Tigers. Harris stayed home, never complained about not starting (that i know of) ALWAYS played his guts out, and won some games for us.

Well done Mr. Harris, now go and be "the man" where ever you want, have stellar Jr. and Sr. seasons, and prosper in all that you do.

Ah, the I have black friends so I couldn’t possibly be a racist style guy brings up Austin Nichols

Austin Nichols, and moreso his dad, did not just transfer, but went out of their way to openly mock and disparage, wait for it, the University of Memphis. THAT received a rebuke.

You may remember the details better than I did but in an effort, by me, to mock those who were bashing the hell out of Tarik Black, and calling him a quitter, when he actually was remarkably complimentary of Memphis as he left, I turned the tables on their untouchable favorite son

To simplify it for you:

Black transfers, mouth breathers beat him up and call him quitter
Nichols transfers, mouth breathers are silent
Black compliments Memphis, mouth breathers beat him up and call him a quitter
Nichols and family disparage Memphis, mouth breathers are silent

Mimi, to make a point that was obvious to most, then calls Nichols names to let people like you know how it feels

You, in trying to score points, bring those comments up completely out of context

You...not so smart

Win Wilfong was a transfer from Missouri.
