Some kids stay with a team and excel, some transfer and excel. Some stay and do poorly, some transfer and do poorly. In a vacuum transferring is NOT some sign of disloyalty or weakness.

Harris was a boon to Memphis, worked his ass off, was constantly berated for being shorter than most, because calling a college kid a midget is just oh so funny. It is especially funny for Memphians to needle a shorter player from Memphis with such witty shots.

Larry Kenon transferred TO Memphis. So have many others since. Give it a rest. Good luck Tyler.

I agree. There was some over the top annoying poster... I can't remember her/it's name... But she wouldn't quit calling Austin Nichols quitter boy... So I guess that makes her not a quitter

Ah, the I have black friends so I couldn’t possibly be a racist style guy brings up Austin Nichols

Austin Nichols, and moreso his dad, did not just transfer, but went out of their way to openly mock and disparage, wait for it, the University of Memphis. THAT received a rebuke.

You may remember the details better than I did but in an effort, by me, to mock those who were bashing the hell out of Tarik Black, and calling him a quitter, when he actually was remarkably complimentary of a Memphis as he left, I turned the tables on their untouchable favorite son

To simplify it for you:

Black transfers, mouth breathers beat him up and call him quitter
Nichols transfers, mouth breathers are silent
Black compliments Memphis, mouth breathers beat him up and call him a quitter
Nichols and family disparage Memphis, mouth breathers are silent

Mimi, to make a point that was obvious to most, them calls Nichols names to let people like you know how it feels

You, in trying to score points, bring those comments up completely out of context

You...not so smart

You cannot be serious? Nichols and his family took a beating on here...

That's how I remember it. I was pretty hard on both him and Black. Maybe there were a few who defended Nichols. But I recall many more who defended Black.

Some people look first at race to divide, though.

^^^this^^^......plus "WHO Tarik Black"--did disparage/trash the MEMPHIS program/coach....and loves/loved the city of MEMPHIS sooo much, that when he played in the rasslin league that he was never announced as being from MEMPHIS only Kansuk. Rose for example is announced sometimes as being from MEMPHIS and sometimes also announced as being Chicago .

Agreed. Tyler just read the handwriting on the wall and realized his opportunity to start and get major minutes was diminishing...I wish him the best in his next adventure. 04-cheers

Pretty much sums it up. If we give Tyler the amount of time and shots it seems he wants we are playing for 5th place in the American.

So, pretty much where we've been for the past few seasons?

What was Tyler’s +/- for the season? At one point, wasn’t it one of the worst on the team?

Just looked it up— 10th on the team in total productivity— ahead of only Jayden, Boyce, and Maurice. As others were saying on here during the season, Harris hurt us just as often as he helped us. I think him transferring will be better for all parties involved.

RE: Tyler Harris transfering ?
I will say I appreciate all the hard work that Tyler Harris put into the Memphis program and he was fun to watch. However, it is difficult to have a guy that is sub 6' play anywhere but PG. Tyler is not most effective to what our team needs when he dominates the ball as a PG and provides a liability on defense (especially when paired with sub 6' Lomax). Therefore, his primary role was to play off the bench and spread the floor with his 3pt shooting. Whether it be from lack of minutes/rhythm or the inability to make shots, the buckets just didn't go down consistently enough for Tyler to help our team this year on a consistent enough basis. We all wanted the guy to be the hometown hero, but it just didn't work out and is probably better for all parties. Wish the guy the best, except when/if he plays us.

Two things:

By the time Austin transferred the vast majority of people had turned on Pastner and everything therefore was Pastners fault, Like so many issues people want to simplify everything (Black was one of the first signs of trouble).

Secondly, If you read Mimi's post he never said anyone was picking on Tyler because he was Black...Read it again.

Rebuttal:

I agree on your timeline and the Pastner impact, but there were still PLENTY who mocked Austin. They may have blamed Pastner more than with Tarik, but they went HARD after Austin. The timing. The did he tell coach or did he not. The drugs. The girlfriend. etc.

Secondly, I never said anything about Tyler and Mimi didn't either. But Mimi absolutely implied race was at play in the treatment between Tarik and Austin.

So to recap...If you say Austin got a free pass, you are entirely wrong. If you say race had anything to do with the treatment, you are widely wrong (there's always 1-2).

All I can do is try to help you see it more clearly, but ultimately you have to reach your own conclusions. Enough space wasted on a garbage post.

And we don't agree on Austin if you believe he saw less crap. He was hit harder than Tarik, and had fewer defenders. Pastner was also hit much harder for Austin than for Tarik, but that didn't lessen the shots fired at Austin.

I tried to be nicer about it, but his offensive game was fool's gold and he hurt the team just as much as he helped it. For every three-pointer he made, he missed 3-- and these were often contested and led to easy buckets on the other end.

Here are the net productivity stats for the season:
Wiseman: 16.2
Dandridge: 6.5
Jeffries: 6.2
Precious: 5.6
Lomax: 5.2
Thomas: 5.2
Quinones: 4.7
Baugh: 3.5
Ellis: 2.5
Harris: 1.0
Jayden: -0.2
Boyce: -0.2
Maurice: -0.9

There is a reason his role was reduced throughout the season.
