So if someone in Cleveland tested positive for it, and then someone in Toledo tested positive for it, and they have no known connection between the cases, they begin to estimate how many people have it based on where people are, what the contagion factors are, etc etc. It's an entire field of study called epidiomology. And, like anything else, it's not perfect. But it's not baseless, either. We don't have nearly enough tests to even comprehend how widespread the virus is. It's entirely possible that Acton was completely right when she said that.

If a Pilot tells passengers to prepare for severe turbulence, and instead there are only moderate disruptions, do you also conclude that you know how to fly the plane better than the Pilot?

Wow.

You go on believing what you want.
Yeah why trust people who spend their careers working in this department, and who have been open and transparent about the data leading them to various conclusions, when you can instead listen to an angry message board poster keep screaming about fake news to a pile of dead bodies.

Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk

You know, people want to discredit Acton's 100,000 cases claim, but it wasn't unreasonable in the least. And we won't know for sure if it is true. But I do know that 100,000 is only about 0.9% of Ohio's population.

There simply are not nearly enough tests. Ohio only tests the most serious cases, of which 7% are positive. If we had more tests, we could effectively sort the contagious from the noncontagious, but that was DOA due to the party line that the virus was under control...

I would also like to suggest that all you need to do in an argument with someone on whether we should re-open the country is ask the person you are arguing with if THEY have lost their job, or are they still working? Those who have not lost or have no fear of losing their jobs want to see us all remain "safe" by keeping the country closed. The poor guy who has lost his job, or stands to lose everything he's built, wants it to open up asap.

The sad thing is, these arguments are just the tip of the iceberg. The conspiracy/blame game are going to go on for YEARS after this.

I agree.

The discussion will be more realistic and honest in the political forum. It doesn't belong here any more.

We posted in the political forum already for that very reason. There's a thread.

Actually it is the flu. Not Influenza-A but it is definitely a respiratory flu. The Coronavirus strain has been around for decades. There have been several Corona type viruses, and Covid-19 is the infection in its 19th generation.

Go back several weeks to where I explained that it is an enveloped virus protected by a protein layer. Because of that layer it is very contagious. Social distancing will flatten the curve to keep a run on hospitals. But its fools gold to think most will avoid contact. Have you touched money, your mail, gas pump, cooler at convenience store, product at retailer that was just touched by someone else? You may have already had it. But if not you certainly will come in contact. We as people can not avoid contact with 300M people.

It is relatively weak as it needs the envelope to survive. Its proven to be asymptomatic in 1000s and minor symptoms for ten of thousands of people. And unfortunately like most diseases, bacteria, and viruses it can get hold of certain people and really cause damage and death.

So the real issue is not the virus - its Fear. Can you live with the fear? I know life is short and have done my best to continue my life during the quarantine. Statistically I have much greater chance of dying in a car accident then from Corona, or Swine Flu, or the Aviary Flu. So I'm going to jump in my car and support a couple local businesses who were nearly shuttered by fear.

What makes you think Covid-19 is the 19th generation of the coronavirus? This will be good.

Edit: I hope we can all agree on how depressing it is that most people's stance on this confirmed global health pandemic is influenced based on which direction they lean POLITICALLY. What the ****.

I confess that the day Trump said it was under control, I said "bull----" and headed to Costco to buy the toilet paper 30-pack.

While I've been moving more left by the day, my opinion was formed by early videos out of China, early WHO press briefings, the initial lockdown of 59 million Chinese.

If you really believed that this was under control, you'd never bother to try to watch WHO press briefings or care what was happening in China.

So let me get this straight... you're dragging politics into this while basically admitting that you too are aligned with everyone on your side of the political aisle.

So... how are you any different the people on the other side?

Yet you all come on here convinced that you are right... and the other side is wrong.

But if someone on the other side does it... they're a partisan hack head slapping idiot.

But if YOU do it... you're just being smart.

So the basic theme here is to just shut up, do things your way and there will be no discussion. Have I got that right?

I didn’t drag politics into this - it was already here.

BUT there is a reality that the ones still filling churches and calling it the flu are overwhelmingly not Bernie supporters.

Besides, I clearly identified - more than once - the source of my information (WHO briefings, reports out of China, etc), and not once did I say it was a politician. I did, however say I negatively reacted to Trump’s “under control’ declaration, which any bozo with a brain cell knew was a lie.

See you on the politics board!

It sucks we all have different opinions that make us disagree on this horrible topic that consumes my waking thoughts most of the day. Mostly I just get on here to *****.

I just hope this all ends some time in the near future not in 2022. And we can get back to talking about more interesting topics like the Bearcats.

I love you all, Bearcat fans. Stay safe.

Lest there be any confusion... ? Here are the current findings in a short summary. Thanks to media misinformation:

The Rules:

1. Basically, you can't leave the house for any reason, but if you have to, then you can.

2. Masks are useless, but maybe you have to wear one, it can save you, it is useless, but maybe it is mandatory as well.

3. Stores are closed, except those that are open.

4. You should not go to hospitals unless you have to go there. Same applies to doctors, you should only go there in case of emergency, provided you are not too sick.

5. This virus is deadly but still not too scary, except that sometimes it actually leads to a global disaster.

6. Gloves won't help, but they can still help.

7. Everyone needs to stay HOME, but it's important to GO OUT.

8. There is no shortage of groceries in the supermarket, but there are many things missing when you go there in the evening, but not in the morning. Sometimes.

9. The virus has no effect on children except those it affects.

10. Animals are not affected, but there is still a cat that tested positive in Belgium in February when no one had been tested, plus a few tigers here and there…

11. You will have many symptoms when you are sick, but you can also get sick without symptoms, have symptoms without being sick, or be contagious without having symptoms. Oh, my God.

12. In order not to get sick, you have to eat well and exercise, but eat whatever you have on hand and it's better not to go out, well, but no…

13. It's better to get some fresh air, but you get looked at very wrong when you get some fresh air, and most importantly, you don't go to parks or walk. But don’t sit down, except that you can do that now if you are old, but not for too long or if you are pregnant (but not too old).

14. You can't go to retirement homes, but you have to take care of the elderly and bring food and medication.

15. If you are sick, you can't go out, but you can go to the pharmacy.

16. You can get restaurant food delivered to the house, which may have been prepared by people who didn't wear masks or gloves. But you have to have your groceries decontaminated outside for 3 hours. Pizza too?

17. Every disturbing article or disturbing interview starts with " I don't want to trigger panic, but…"

18. You can't see your older mother or grandmother, but you can take a taxi and meet an older taxi driver.

19. You can walk around with a friend but not with your family if they don't live under the same roof.

20. You are safe if you maintain the appropriate social distance, but you can’t go out with friends or strangers at the safe social distance.

21. The virus remains active on different surfaces for two hours, no, four, no, six, no, we didn't say hours, maybe days? But it takes a damp environment. Oh no, not necessarily.

22. The virus stays in the air - well no, or yes, maybe, especially in a closed room, in one hour a sick person can infect ten, so if it falls, all our children were already infected at school before it was closed. But remember, if you stay at the recommended social distance, however in certain circumstances you should maintain a greater distance, which, studies show, the virus can travel further, maybe.

23. We count the number of deaths but we don't know how many people are infected as we have only tested so far those who were "almost dead" to find out if that's what they will die of…

24. We have no treatment, except that there may be one that apparently is not dangerous unless you take too much (which is the case with all medications).

25. We should stay locked up until the virus disappears, but it will only disappear if we achieve collective immunity, so when it circulates… but we must no longer be locked up for that?

See you on the politics board!

I believe the question was "how are you any different".

I already told you twice: my opinion was not political. If anything, my motivation was predicting stock market movement. (The virus isn’t the big problem - its only the pin that pops the bubble.)

It’s rare that I’m so right about something, but I just happened to call this one and was rather confident about it. I was telling people to pay attention.

But I’ll be damned if I’m going to let people call this the flu, or let a politician get away with saying it’s under control, or that it’s going to
miraculously disappear, especially since he had been warned...repeatedly.

That's OK dude. Nobody else ever answers my direct questions either. Why should you be any different.

Just curious, why aren't you such a hard a$$ about the head of the health department ridiculously overstating a month ago that there were 100,000 people walking around Ohio with covid19 when actually to date there have been only about 7% of that figure? Selective hard assness?

It's OK if you duck this question too.

Do you think there will be a 2020 college FB season?
I, and others, have repeatedly told you why the 100,000 case statement wasn't problematic. You're the one who is deliberately ignoring all of those posts and just continuing to regurgitate the same talking point.

RE: Do you think there will be a 2020 college FB season?
I doubt that there will be College Football in the Fall, it Might be held in the Spring without fans possibly. The possibility of plummeting revenues is scaring many Power 5 Athletics Departments, Louisville is asking its coaches to take a 10% pay cut. I have seen some speculation that the Power 5 might bolt from the NCAA and that there could be some expansion that could include our beloved alma mater UC plus Boise St, San Diego St., Houston, Memphis, USF and UCF. What is everyone's thoughts on this?

What are you babbling about? How many have been tested? Your claim is baseless and utter nonsense.

Baseless... nonsense... can't you guys think of any new stuff?

Those are facts, my man.

But by all means, don't answer the question.
