RE: OT: CUSA board Music thread (what are you listening to right now?)
Had just about forgotten about this one. One of my favorites
I remember this song from when I was in high school and really liked it, but I didn't know at the time and until today that it was Kenny Rogers singing it...

Nice. 1977. That's back when Dolly was really hot. Great voice too.
yeah, and the kicker of that one is who wrote it? The Bee Gees (specifically, Barry Gibb.) They had so many "extra" songs at that time, and they were already over-saturating the airwaves, so they gave a bunch of great songs away to others just to get them out there, and this was one of them. Prolific is not even close to the word for Gibb's talent as a songwriter and arranger. Underappreciated. And Barry's the last one left: Andy, Maurice, and Robin all precede him in death. Lives in Miami nowadays.
Artist: Bee Gees
Album: One Night Only (live)
Song: "Islands In The Stream"
Recorded: November 14, 1997 @ MGM Grand, Las Vegas.
September 7, 1998 Polydor Records

Not completely sure, but I believe Barry produced one of Kenny Rogers' albums in the 80s.
BTW, Barry was the inaugural Fellow at Middle Tennessee's Center for Popular Music and made an appearance at MT in 2013 and sang a few of the BeeGees' early hits, How can you mend a Broken Heart and Lonely Days...

Cool. Did you see him?
Had to be out of town that day and by the time I got back, it was too late...
