RE: Bloomgren's coaching staff
Looks like we added Jeffrey Barnett as "Director of Football Recruiting" to complement John Simmons.
Previously Run Game Coordinator at Fulshear HS, OL Coach at Denton Guyer, GA @ A&M, and GA @ Alabama.

Monfiletto is a former D-III head coach... Seems like a decent enough choice for probably the least important position coaching role on the field (lots of the best tight end coaches make their names as recruiters-Like Tim Brewster, who was being discussed in another thread).
Sanders Davis... Well, HS OL Coach (granted at Catholic in BR which is a great program) to FBS OL Coach is a huge jump for in a little bit over the year. That said-Recruits are always tagging him in tweets so he seems to be good on that front and besides, I'm unconvinced that the level that one is coaching at is always the best indicator of coaching skill, especially for a young coach like Davis.

Lou Holtz used to say that HS coaches were the best coaches, because they had to take whatever they got and win with it. At the NCAA level, it's way more about recruiting than coaching. Somebody with ties to the Baton Rouge area could be a huge help in recruiting an area from which we have historically gotten a pitiful number of people, given it's geographical proximity. OK, I know LSU gets first pick of the litter there, but we aren't recruiting the same people that they are anyway.
And yes the TE coach is almost always a big-time recruiter, because how well you recruit is a much bigger indicator of overall success than how well your tight ends play.

RE: Bloomgren's coaching staff
Based on their results, I’m pretty sure Catholic “gets who they want” in the Baton Rouge area. But yes-you do have to be more malleable to your talent.
