If you make it to 28-29 you are considered old. By 30 you are basically done. Might as well go on now to the NFL.
I'm not sure there is "literally nothing" he could do to improve his draft stock, but your point is well taken anyway. ESPN.com just put out a premium list of the top 50 potential NFL free agents. They noted upfront that it is about NFL team philosophies rather than simply performance. To illustrate the point (and yours as it turns out), they specifically noted QB Marcus Mariotta (benched in week 6) made the list while RB Carlos Hyde (1,070 yards rushing but age 29) didn't.

For all of us who ever got pissed at a coach lying to everyone about taking a new job, Saban is basically the Godfather of the move. He's a great coach, no doubt, but I'm not sure he's that good of a guy. I mean, I'm sure he does some good deeds, but he sure doesn't flash much charisma or personality, let alone a sense of humor. How can someone be against all unauthorized biographies of everyone ever? He just seems very aloof to me. Serious question: Have you heard of any ex-players raving about the personal influence he had on them or their life or how close they felt to him?
Well, the first day of two-a-days. We had about a three-hour-plus practice in the morning in that south Florida sun. You guys know what it’s like down there in late July, early August. And then that night we had another practice under the lights, if I recall I think it was about from 6 to 9.
Jeno James, our best offensive lineman at the time, comes in and collapses after practice, uh, vomiting all kinds of stuff that would make a billygoat puke, eyes rolled in the back of his head. Myself, about four other lineman are trying to carry him from the locker room, to the training room.
Obviously it’s a moment of panic, everyone, you know, we don’t know if this guy’s, you know, gonna die, I mean, the whole deal. But he’s so big and sweaty and heavy that we actually have to set him down in the hallway between the locker room and the training room.
Nick Saban literally just starts walking in, steps over Jeno James convulsing, doesn’t say a word, doesn’t try to help, goes upstairs, I don’t know what he does. But then obviously they get Jeno ‘trauma-offed’ to the hospital.
Saban calls a team meeting about 10:30 that night, comes down and says, ‘You know, the captain of the ship can never show fear or indecision, we’ve always gotta have an answer, and so I had to go upstairs, that’s why I walked over Geno like that, I had to collect my thoughts and decide what’s best for our team.’
And I’m thinking to myself, I think along with Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas and Yeremiah Bell and all these other guys going, ‘Did he, does he really believe what he’s just saying?’ He showed no human emotion for one of his best players.
A lot of this is a little older, I dunno, maybe he's changed some.

Looks like he is having a good combine overall. Hopefully will continue to move up boards as it’s important for a football program to show they can develop talent. We are starting to see that Fick and co are getting guys drafted and that will help the level of recruits we are able to get.
Deguara ran a 4.73 and a 4.74 in the 40. The guy with Eisen said watching the film on him he made the biggest hustle play of all the TE's with the tackle he did on the pick by the DB and him running him down.

That play defines who he is. He’s clawed his way to where he is with hard work and pure will.

He is having an excellent combine, 225lb reps, vertical, 40 time all of it.

It's tough when you're worst position groups are QB, OL, and WR for a TE to find any room to operate. Given the limitations of our passing offense I think 39 catches for 500 yards was pretty strong.

Oh, I agree. It is just really a shame we didn't have a stronger over passing game around him (all three positions you mentioned) so that he could have had a better chance to shine.

I remember when there was a Deguara NFL thread on here that I wasn't sure he had the size/athleticism to cut it. That's why they have the combine. I was wrong his size is adequate and the athleticism is there. He will certainly be a guy who can play special teams and probably will be able to help out in the passing game as well. He's nowhere near a Kelce level talent but as a prospect he probably compares favorably to Celek as a prospect coming out.
