It is about expanding the Chicago area alumni footprint. It may not have been the best way to do it but it's a shot, and time will tell. We we get 20 to 25K in the seats, it was worth it.
People will not go to DeKalb on clod weekday night to see a football game, and we're tied to the MAC contract because we need the funding. It's a massive Catch-22.
At the end of the day I support this team no matter what, especially now that times are not good. If I have to go to beautiful SeAtGeek stadium, than so be it.
All those who say that they're dropping their season tickets should reconsider, or at least donate the equivalent sum to the HAF.
If they need the money that bad they should have signed up for another P5 road game. They would get WAY more money. Then next year have a home game against somebody other than FCS.

Why should people donate when we have the worst AD in the entire conference, who has run the athletic department into the ground. It is literally flushing money down the toilet. I don't believe for a second Frazier thinks this will grow anything in Chicago, he is merely trying to milk season ticket holders for a few extra bucks because he knows the BYU game will be otherwise poorly attended given NIU is heading into what appears to be a rough season. Frazier has lost the benefit of trust, without a doubt
So what's the answer? Give up? You can, but I won't.
We're not in the position to go out an hire a new AD for tons of money. We have to make do, and hopefully there will be some light at the end of the tunnel.
This program has champagne tastes on a beer budget, and it's done a lot with no to many resources.
Again, maybe this isn't the greatest idea, time will tell, but it's not a catastrophe nor is it going to change my NIU fandom.
Lost in all the complaining and teeth gnashing is the game itself. If we beat BYU it won't matter where it's played.
I had just been thinking the same thing. BYU has a schedule of Utah, Mich St, Ariz St, Houston, Missou, Utah State and Minnesota prior to playing NIU. If they win even 5 of those games they are likely a ranked team. If we were to then beat them, 10 years from now no one is going "remember that time we gave away a saturday home game in Dekalb." Instead it's gonna be " we gotta play there more often it's our lucky stadium."

Yes, that seems to have been the formula for them. Schedule as many P5 away money games as possible. Yet, although they have been doing this, it seems like they still are broke. If this is truly the case, and money generated by 3 money games a year is not enough to sustain them (together with other funding), it's time they think about dropping football or going down to FCS first, IMO. They will not generate enough money from ticket sales to sustain themselves and there are no fruitful capital donation programs, so what are the choices? Do the 3 big money games every year and for the 1 OOC game at home, schedule an FCS team where there will be minimal payout. If that doesn't work, it's time for them to re-think their existence as an FBS program.

Am I confused or did you really predict it’s gonna rain? Let me know how you’re feeling about this weeks lottery numbers while you’re at it.
I have to ask..how many peeps do you think will attend?
it rained on every saturday home game in 2019. Games in October tend to be wetter than august/september games. He's got a good shot at being right.

But, look. The bottom line is STF apparently does not want to put much more effort into building up attendance in DeKalb. He wants a game played in Chicago. If that is a given, if that is a must, set in stone, then this stadium is a MUCH better fit than Soldier Field or Guaranteed Rate - at least for this opponent - or any opponent other than Iowa or Wisconsin. I assume, from a financial side, the athletic department has a much higher likelihood to actually make money on the game at this site than elsewhere. We shall see.
I would LOVE to see real effort made into raising attendance (fan experience) at Huskie Stadium. But, if the decision is cast in stone that we SHALL play a game in Chicago, then this is the best possible, IMHO.
If it's not going to be in Husky Stadium, then yes, I agree that this particular stadium is a great fit. However, the location of the stadium is 100% terrible. There is literally no attraction or draw for any other team to want to come to Bridgeview to play a football game. And why would they? If this stadium was in Gary, IN, it would be no different. A great stadium in a terrible location = don't do it.
Had this been pitched initially to BYU as the original location of the game, there's no way in hell BYU agrees to it. Hell, I'm surprised they didn't back out of the game when the location was changed. I'm sure they weren't stoked about coming to DeKalb, but if its gonna be changed, moving it to Brideview would be a "no deal" for me if I'm the AD at BYU. Wanna move it? Fine, put it somewhere in Chicago not in some collar community surrounded by train tracks. Just think how stoked the BYU players will be on that commute out to Brideview.
Talk about an experience they'll never forget.
commute to bridgeview is much better than the one to DeKalb. Great stadium in a terrible location don't do it, there's a place called green bay that would disagree with you. I don't like moving the game out of Huskie Stadium at all, but its a much better option than Wrigley, Sox, or Soldier fields would be. Its also a much better commute than Washington state to Chicago as you had the game in Husky Stadium

You sure it rained every Saturday home game? That’s just a sign right there..no way we were gonna do good last year. I hope almighty DogFan is right about the weather...I’ll be dancing in the rain if we beat ranked BYU.

Good lord.. if NIU had to pay to play in the middle of no where that's even worse, discounted price or not.

SeatGeek could be super loud with roofs on both sides, might be a fun venue for a one-off game.
Are those friends of your's going to only attend that one game only because it's closer and not attend any games in DeKalb after that because it's "too far"?
We've played four games in Chicago now and that has not brought more casual fans to Huskie Stadium. I doubt playing a game outside of Chicago in a soccer stadium is going to gain more new fans that will now suddenly drive to DeKalb to watch us play Rhode Island, or Akron on a weekday.

So, you think NIU would draw better at SeatGeek than at Wrigley?
Alright....
Personally, I prefer to play games in locations where you actually have 2 endzones!
And at a place where urinating is not a group activity
Keep that up and Dog Fan is gonna be in here confronting you about them there being fighting words

I’m good with it.
Glad we can pay Frazier's salary now
Yes, being able to pay employee salary is a key to a business model

I'm totally sympathetic to season ticket holders (I am one) and DeKalb businesses but it's worth a try. I've seen quite a bit of enthusiasm for this game among my friends due to it being located closer than DeKalb.
These friends are casual fans who I can get to a game at Huskie Stadium maybe once every four years. This game will have no impact on that. Nor would they have attended this game if it was at Huskie Stadium by the way. My point was that at least we may be able to get a good crowd for this one game. Also as I've noted in other posts, I don't think anything short of changing conferences can improve attendance in DeKalb, just my opinion.
