If anything, STF should have done a game in Bridgeport vs Toledo, and see how well it is received. It would make the driver easier for Toledo fans and I don't think there would be such an uproar like there is right now ......Just look at all the upset fans !!!! I know people who are not going to the game because of the location.

I think that’s a good guess (if the game is even played). Or STF could try to expand NIU’s reach by playing it in a high school stadium in Pekin.

What’s their issue with the location?

This “exciting” news honestly just put a damper on my day. No season tickets for me. SF and staff-you are truly turning an excellent fan who brings family to games and spends money into a complacent fan. This is my last straw. I’m done making extra sacrifices to be supportive

Huskie Stadium is a dump and hasn’t come close to a sellout in years. Boston College, San Diego State, Utah, Toledo, instate FCS. Insert any opponent over that span and not a single game close to filling the place for years. To those complaining, quit pretending like Huskie Stadium was suddenly going to be sold out for BYU.

It’s clear the crowds don’t want to come to DeKalb. I hope this game is a huge success and they sell the stadium out. If it is a success then I say play one game a year offsite at Seatgeek. Consistently playing in front of 5,000 fans in DeKalb is about as small time as it gets. At some point you have to try something different to drum up interest and advance the program.

RE: Big Announcement - Athletics
My friend's issue with location is that it is not Dekalb/Huskie Stadium. NIU is where they graduated and they do not plan on driving and paying extra monies for a game in some soccer field. Check out the response on twitter below to the announcement this morning........ all negative!!

Three straight seasons with only five games in Dekalb. This does not incentivize buying season tickets, again.

Another awful idea to lose a big time game vs a big time opponent in DeKalb and go with a neutral field. When will we hire someone with the brass balls to say no this needs to be in DeKalb we trucked our asses out to Provo they can come to DeKalb. Disappointing.

Terrible. Stop rewarding these schools with neutral site games. BYU should be coming to Dekalb. @Utah_Football
did and they are a better program than BYU and beat them every year.

Is it been played here for a better chance at a sellout? With the Fire gone, Seatgeek Stadium gotta find some way to attract people now I guess.

Is this a joke? The Chicago Fire paid $65 million to not play there, what in the hell are we doing here? Awful.

It’s a balancing act for Frazier. I try to be open minded about creating new fans and new income streams. But he also has to keep those 5k hard core fans in mind. Those are the only ones out there during November weeknight games. Not sure what the answer is....but he show the, some love DIRECTLY.

If it was just STF being inept I could handle that, the man simply does not care

It's a Saturday, so that helps, but man...giving up Saturday games in Dekalb against strong opponents? Yuck.

I doubt Huskie stadium was going to be PACKED for it, we showed that with the Utah game...but still, doesn't seem good.
I'd guess that they are trying to recreate the Northwestern atmosphere we had in Evanston a few years ago.

But the L went directly to the NW campus and the trains were packed with Huskies; does this place have any public transportation?

Huskie Stadium is not "a dump". It can use a long overdue refresh and modernization effort but there is not a bad seat in the stadium and it is a fun place to watch a game. Unfortunately a facelift/modernization project in the scale required is expensive for a cash strapped school in a bankrupt state.

Meanwhile we could do some small improvements like removing the stupid picket fence.

No public transportation that doesn't involve a bus (for a majority if the commute). And the bus isn't even CTA. The only bus that runs out that way is PACE.

Bike chuck, The west side of Huskie Stadium is a dump/joke that’s a fact! The problem for NIU is we want to play football like one of the big schools but we only have a budget and facility that would fit a basketball only school. Our football stadium isn’t close to being a decent stadium on the other hand the convo is big schools ready. NIU athletics is in a tough spot and I don’t see any answers. We went to the Orange Bowl and had a Heisman finalist all recently and now we averaged 10-13k a game.

RE: Big Announcement - Athletics
Doesn’t bother me at all. Just don’t cut my 5 hour tailgate short. A slightly shorter drive for me from the Schaumburg area.

It has been what, 4 years since we had a home game outside Huskie Stadium? Get over yourselves. There still will be 3 Saturday home games in DeKalb this year.

This game will have some novelty for alums in the Chicago area. I wouldn’t be surprised if it sold out ... only holds 20,000. It’s on a Saturday likely during the day in October, against a quasi-P5, and not on a freezing Tuesday night in November at Sux park against the Turds. Hopefully NIU can make some money on this game, the Utah game in DeKalb was somewhat of a dud with what 15,000?

Soldier Field? Maybe some would like that better but it costs too much and NIU can’t fill it against BYU anyway.

Like STF or not, he is trying something new. Will it work out? Time will tell. The fans have already spoken about games in DeKalb, attendance is dropping like a rock.

Make a big "splash" by announcing future P5 home games and then either cancel the game or move it to a venue outside of Dekalb months before the scheduled game. I can maybe come to grips with the game being moved to Soldier Field but SeatGeek Stadium?....SeatGeek Stadium???....Really?

This is a total embarrassment...STF is a loser.

agreed, this is an absolute bust. What are the positives in doing this? We are located in Dekalb...not Bridgeview.

Bridgeview isn't a destination that anyone seeks. I am baffled. STF is ice cold with his moves.....he is clueless.

That's not good. This would make more sense in Wrigley or the Cell. Soldier Field would not be an option for a team like BYU.

Not sure Wrigley or the Cell are an option in late October with the baseball season still ongoing.

Anybody ask the question about Soccer turf vs Football turf. Bad enough to move this game,
But I do not want injuries on top of that.
