RE: Revised TV deal coming
The point is
B-12 will get credit for Kansas, Okla, Tex.
Tulane fan base is to small
Central Fla is not BB crazy
Cin has B-10N & SecN,
Temple has A-10 on +

I agree Memphis BB will bring in subscriptions
ECU with FB & BB struggling & baseball would be #2
Conn would have FB, BB, WBB, hockey, base ball to pull in subscriptions

It's not exactly rocket science

RE: Revised TV deal coming
This is a list of the bottom 20 FBS teams in average attendance based on their last 4 years of attendance (credit to Bullet for posting the list to the Realignment Board). It’s amazing how many of these bottom 20 teams keep getting mentioned as legit options to replace UConn. It’s just moronic.

Bottom 20 schools (Note Idaho was 11,566 their last 4 years in FBS, better than 3 schools on this list)
Texas State 16,456 SB
Buffalo 16,410 MAC
Miami, OH 16,400 MAC
Eastern Michigan 16,343 MAC
Georgia State 16,184 SB
Florida Atlantic 15,920 CUSA
Western Kentucky 15,708 CUSA
MTSU 15,673 CUSA
Bowling Green 15,340 MAC
Florida International 15,159 CUSA
New Mexico State 14,849 IND
San Jose State 14,819 MWC
Central Michigan 14,329 MAC
Louisiana-Monroe 13,569 SB
Coastal Carolina 13,538 SB
UNC Charlotte 12,531 CUSA
Kent State 12,506 MAC
Massachusetts 11,275 IND
Northern Illinois 10,308 MAC

lol....based on what? Buffalo recorded exactly ONE home game with attendance over 20K this year (and it was just barely over 20K at 20,042). The average 2019 Buffalo home attendance for 2019-20 was 16,417. They were coming off a 10-4 season and a trip to the CCG----and still barely averaged over 16K. I'd also add that the 2019 average attendance of 16,417---almost exactly matches Buffalo's 4 year attendance average---so there is no evidence of an upward trend. There is zero reason to believe their average will suddenly shoot up 10K to the mid-20's next year---especially considering the team actually took a step backward this season.

Name 1 school that would have more ESPN+ subscriptions than Conn.

I would think pretty much everyone other than Tulsa. Not a knock on Tulsa, they just graduate way less than everyone else.

I would have been interested to see the actuals on how many ESPN+ subscriptions UConn women's basketball really would have brought in. While UConn owned the pond(population of people who not only watch womens basketball, but are willing to pay a separate subscription for it), I think it's smaller than UConn fans are saying.

I would think that yes over most sports the bigger state institutions would be roughly the same, there are large alumni and fanbases for all of them. The privates, excluding the Naval Academy, have more limitations built in. Particularly Tulsa who is much smaller.

Winning CUSA?

True. I had to think about that. O'Leary was the coach at that time and recruited from other states rather than FL. If I remember right, he recruited from Georgia a lot. I need to research that more, though.

Was UCF's attendance that great before the AAC? Before UCF hired Frost.

UCF attendance was just over 30K the year before Frost. It was 32K the year before UCF began AAC play. So, it was not anywhere even remotely close to 16K if thats what you are asking. Id also point out---those are 4 year averages on that list---so its not like we are looking at one really bad year. None of the teams on that list should be considered as a viable option.

Noticeably missing from the list is App State. There 5 year attendance average is just behind UConn at 23703.60 versus UConn at 24748.00. Further App State the stadium at 79% playing weak teams in the SBC. It'd be a safe bet that they fill more in the AAC. Tulane, SMU, and Tulsa are lower than App State as well. Here is the 5 year list for those interested:

Wasn't UCF 0-12 the year before Frost. I guess that Baylor bowl game sold a lot of tickets. They did not show up. My only point is that a good coaching hire along with a top 4 recruiting state can make a big difference. Just look at the Frost hire.

Ucf hasn't had that level of attendance since playing 15 miles from campus in the mac. No way do we need a program that good attendance is viewed as 20k. We had a spring game with 23k before.

App State at least could have attendance potential moving up.

C'mon. The MAC atendance. The attendance from either would be negligible. A coaching hire could kill this, from either school. UCF has had an advantage for the fact of the recruiting. GSU could have the same.

Are you talking about Ga State? Ga Tech is literally down the road. That will always be a tough road. It would be similar to us having FSU in Oviedo.

FSU recruiting differences from GA TEch. The standards may not be the same. How many schools in the FBS in Georgia. Not many.

Cin has B-10N & SecN,
Temple has A-10 on +

I agree Memphis BB will bring in subscriptions
ECU with FB & BB struggling & baseball would be #2
Conn would have FB, BB, WBB, hockey, base ball to pull in subscriptions

It's not exactly rocket science

UCF is not basketball crazy?

We are just a young program comparatively. And we didn't have enough success to have the same hype as our Football program.

But we definitely have the upside and enough Basketball fans.

Not many.

The point is having a major brand literally down the street is always going to be an uphill climb. I'd rather have a team that doesn't need to compete for attention on the same downtown street. If we have to take an east coast football only, I'd rather have App State. They have proven better football quality, more fan support, etc.

I personally rather get a MWC football only and VCU hoops. App State would want all sports after a few years.

Point taken. The one issue that I have with this, is that going to AF in the winter months would be difficult, to say the least.

UCF only has to go one year in four, but what about the AAC West teams. I also need to see if AF is going to want a Navy kind of deal. As far as BB, I really do not keep up with the top teams.

As far as App St, short term they should be in contention, but I see the AAC teams going to Ga St every two to four years at a #4 recruiting state. A good coaching hire and the AAC may have another UCF. It has been pointed out that Ga Tech is just down the road, but the recruiting standards may not be the same.

So, it was not anywhere even remotely close to 16K if thats what you are asking. Id also point out---those are 4 year averages on that list---so its not like we are looking at one really bad year. None of the teams on that list should be considered as a viable option.

That Dallas area is pretty crowded as well... Seems to be working well there:

Teams within driving diatance to Dallas: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_co...Division_I

Some are more realistic driving distance than others.

It’s amazing how many of these bottom 20 teams keep getting mentioned as legit options to replace UConn. It’s just moronic.

Bottom 20 schools (Note Idaho was 11,566 their last 4 years in FBS, better than 3 schools on this list)
Texas State 16,456 SB
Buffalo 16,410 MAC
Miami, OH 16,400 MAC
Eastern Michigan 16,343 MAC
Georgia State 16,184 SB
Florida Atlantic 15,920 CUSA
Western Kentucky 15,708 CUSA
MTSU 15,673 CUSA
Bowling Green 15,340 MAC
Florida International 15,159 CUSA
New Mexico State 14,849 IND
San Jose State 14,819 MWC
Central Michigan 14,329 MAC
Louisiana-Monroe 13,569 SB
Coastal Carolina 13,538 SB
UNC Charlotte 12,531 CUSA
Kent State 12,506 MAC
Massachusetts 11,275 IND
Northern Illinois 10,308 MAC
Ball State 9,475 MAC

.
Prior to 2013, when Temple was playing in the MAC, and especially before their current home field (Lincoln Financial Field) was built, Temple's FB attendance was often below 20,000, and could be comparable to the better MAC teams' attendance levels, except when Temple occasionally hosted Penn State with 60,000 in attendance.

Temple's attendance began to rise when Al Golden became HC and got the program back on track, but I don't think their average attendance climbed up to 21,000 or 22,000 until Temple re-joined the Big East for its final pre-AAC season in 2013.

The point is that a lot of schools with an average attendance around 15,000 per game might well experience a doubling of attendance, as Temple has, if they were to join the AAC.

However, the point would be moot for nearly every school on this list, with the possible exception of Buffalo, which itself is probably less likely than the MWC schools to receive an AAC invitation.

Caveat: Buffalo, if they ever join the AAC, might need to build a new stadium to double their attendance, unless they could work out an arrangement to play in the Bills' stadium.

Since I'm using Temple's history in the MAC as an example, it might be worthwhile to point out that Temple's attendance could continue to increase in the years ahead - - if and only if the Owl FB can remain in the upper half of the AAC with regular bowl games. So it's hard to say how much an AAC membership could have on longer-term attendance.
