I'd gladly have the school that my degrees are from say 'on the rise'. We know we aren't a 'top 25 university' or an Ivy League school. We are realistic. Therefore, people noticing our improvement is important.

I'll give you an example you can understand. It's the same as those back to back wins against your team. I'd of rather beat Oklahoma in back to back weeks to win a Big XII title. But we are where we are and we are. So instead, we showed improvement, we just beat you twice, to spoil your trip to the Cotton Bowl. We are ok with that, and proud of that.

They are a tier 1 research university with decent academics. The problem is they attempt to act like they are elite and simply don't have the numbers to back it up... but I wont deny them that they have improved and are not a bad academic school.

You should do some research, then. There are obviously better schools out there than UCF. Many of them, even. But it has managed to not only grow in size, but also increase academic profile and accomplishments. It's relatively tough to get in as a first-year student and there are many programs that do well.

UCF also isn't a commuter school. It's highly residential and things are going on all the time on and off-campus. UCF transitioned out of the commuter school phase beginning in the 1990s.

Miami is also a small, extremely expensive private school. Likely not a lot of overlap there anyway. But more and more, students are choosing UCF as a first choice even over the traditional flagship schools like UF and FSU. As pointed out, it's now easier to get into FSU than it is UCF. UCF also has done well in expanding access through aggressive programs for transfer students - saving students tons of money in the process.

USF is also strong and they get their fair share of students who want to go there first and foremost. Let's not live in the 1980s and 1990s thinking that the only decent to good educations are possible only at Miami, UF, and FSU.

I get your point. Its great Memphis and especially UCF are making strides in their academic programs.

I just would rather not be on the list associated with some of the other schools and already be top (whatever makes you feel proud) and growing from there.
