RE: Revised TV deal coming
There is a very small and bizarre segment of Temple fans (2 of which are in the posts before this one) that regularly post pushing the AAC to add schools like Buffalo, ODU, Charlotte, A-10 basketball teams, etc. They really want a Northern team/somewhat close school/old basketball conference mate of Temple added yet you can’t find more than a handful of other Temple fans that think it is a good idea. Nothing against these schools but they aren’t happening (I guess possibly VCU or unless this conference is picked apart in future expansion) but they still continually post about them.

For all of the people pushing for Olympic sports additions, that will only happen if a VCU, Gonzaga, Dayton and St Louis are paired with Army (FB only).

All other additions from UMass to SDSU and anything in between should be full membership only... The hybrid stuff is part of what killed the BIG EAST teams don't really like being partial members.

Love watching Acadimies play, Army had nice run last couple yrs
Luckly, Army smart enough to know, yr in yr out, they cannot compete in P6 conf

Let's stop with the hybrid "killed" the Big East. The teams that left simply got in a more prestigious league and got more money. A lot more money.

The AAC just need to put out the best set of teams that will bring the TV dollars. If that means a hybrid or non-hybrid it doesn't matter to me. Any team will leave with a Big 12 offer. Might as make as much as possible now.

Do UCF fans ever consider that the reason that USF was originally selected over UCF is because USF football was weaker? The BIG EAST was and is a basketball league, and would have done anything to keep that way including breaking up the conference if necessary, which they did... Miami(FL) left because of it's football strength and Penn State was voted down because of it' football strength.

What part of 'football' do you not understand? Are they planning on moving up, and if not, why the fascination with VCU?

Air Force football only... VCU for Olympic Sports!!

Sorry to the people that keep pushing for Dayton or St. Louis, but that is not happening.

VCU is the only Olympic sports program that fits the AAC profile... If not AF/VCU combo then neither will be coming and we are back to BUFFALO, ODU and that level conversation. Army will not survive AAC competition and BYU is not coming.

Maybe CSU FULL member?

Dayton > VCU. What has VCU done since Shaka left?

VCU is a better fit for AAC profile.

RE: Revised TV deal coming
I think the only option is to go big. There is no east of the Mississippi team that adds value now. UAB might be the closest fit but they have such a negative connotation associated with them that it would be a tough sell. They would need to rebrand as Birmingham or something and further seperate themselves from Tuscaloosa. The best option is to go all in on the west in a three pod system with each pod having an academy. Furthermore each academy only has to play their interpod foes plus one other on rotation giving them 6 league games. This allows the Academies to schedule nationally and hopefully schedule a few cupcakes to keep their win totals up. It also keeps the rest of the conference from having to play 2 academies a year most years. Lock in the Cinci/Memphis/Houston rivalries and everyone should be happy.

Finally add Dayton and VCU for a 17 game basketball conference schedule were everybody only plays each other once giving schools the chance to schedule as many non con games as possible to better build NCAA resumes.

East

UCF
USF
ECU
Temple
Cincinnati
*Army

Central

Memphis
Houston
Tulsa
SMU
Tulane
*Navy

West

Boise
BYU
CSU
SDSU
UNLV
*AFA

Require CSU to build a new basketball arena if they want in and fund their basketball at the AAC median level.
Require UNLV to fund their football program at the AAC median level.

The bottom line is I don't think we can get AFA without CSU and you can't get BYU without AFA and Boise. CSU is the school that binds the other 3.

The academies have a height weight restriction and will usually play 30+ less than their opponents. the army has even a more strict standard than the navy i believe. you have to remember that these academies main goal is to be fit to fight wars and not just play football.

with that being said they do a good job winning games. just look at how well navy has done. if somehow they can put a waiver on the sports players they would be able to compete a whole lot easier.

VCU is by far the best institutional match. Nothing wrong with St. Louis or Dayton, but there isn't much kindred spirit with them. VCU matches the profile of second or third team in a state, located in a large metro with sizable enrollment that matches almost every other team in the conference. SMU, Tulane, and Tulsa match for everything but enrollement size and being private.

I unfortunately don't. Agree with any of the suggested teams Temple or ECU have been offering up LOLOL. I think that any additions are going to be 100% dictated by an expansion of the playoffs to a 5-2-1 system and since there's starting to be a lot of smoke being kicked up by the recent statements from some p5 commissioners, my guess would be that neither geography nor AAU status are going to be of as much concern as the quality of their athletic departments and TV ratings potential.07-coffee307-coffee3

So... I thought UConn leaving wasn't one of the teams that could affect the value of the TV contract. How is ESPN able to renegotiate now after the deal is complete? Unless we are indeed bringing in 1-3 new members which could change the makeup of the conference by quite a bit?

Reduced inventory once they leave. Hopefully the per team payout stays the same and we move on.

Only addition that makes any sense is BYU for football only. That doesn't look like it's going to happen.

If one of certain teams left it is an automatic. If a certain number leave it is automatic. Otherwise it's up to ESPN and the AAC. My guess is not much comes out of this. I doubt a full share loss, but the amount of content takes a hit so we may see a small reduction based on that.

Most likely we got a short list from ESPN and some slightly altered language about the terms if we add programs.
