Florida State wanted to have a new coach in place by December. They appear to be waiting for someone to finish out the season before they make their hire.

I heard they were announcing this week. If so, I don’t think it will be CMN.

We'll see. The consensus on Norvell with the majority of FSU fans is that he's not any better than Taggart.

According to calkins fsu already has the stage setup for the announcement. I think they will announce norvell on Sunday and he most likely wouldn't coach the cotton bowl especially if its against Florida.
What do yall think about app states coach?

If he has enough experience that translates, my choice would be Silverfield or Chip Long. That said, I trust our president, AD, and others to make another great hire. Hope Mike stays!

I echo all this. BUT, I'm 100% for Silverfield if Coach leaves.
It takes at least two years to learn Mike's offense and Silverfield has the best understanding of it not to mention his recruiting chops.

I'd assume an outside hire would bring his own philosophy and not try to learn Mike's.

Nah, I support Silverfield as well if for no other reason than it would eliminate the headache of trying to interview other coaches.

There's always the possibility that the Cotton Bowl doesn't even happen. My battered fan syndrome makes me think that tanking the conf championship is a possibility, then coaching the bowl game really isn't that important to the fan base. We've seen coaches tank before leaving in the past, football and bball. Now that can never be proven but if preparation time takes a hit due to negotiations with FSU then in my book that is tanking.

You're right they should either select an offensive coordinator or a deputy head coach instead.

Starting to look more like CMN is going to FSU. They pushed back their announcement until next week.

Appalachian State coach will likely remain at his school until a decent p5 job comes open. Better off hiring an assistant

He is the current offensive coordinator. We don't think of him that way, because Norvell is the play caller. But Norvell says to make no mistake - Silverfield is the coordinator.

But I get what you're saying. At the same time, I believe Fuente came to us with a similar background. He was co-OC at TCU, but Patterson called the plays.

The search firm recommended Jim McElwain when we hired Fuente and there was no search firm for Norvell. I guess by your definition, this is me getting crushed in yet another argument.

There was absolutely a firm contracted for Norvell. There are differences of speculation about how involved they were. But there was absolutely a firm involved. It's documented.

Search firm didn't pick Norvell. It didn't pick Fuente either, he was just on the list.
Search firms don't pick people, they just expose those who are looking for new positions (under the radar) and can make recommendations. The final decision is always with the employer who conducts the job interview.
Yep, you would think that would be apparent, but I guess it needs to be pointed out.

Agree. Not sure why some are so insistent there was no firm. It's well documented. And they do the identification and contact. Decisions are made locally. Bowen had Norvell's name on his list. Both he and Norvell have said so. But he was also on the firm's list.

When we say "stick to the same process that got us Fuente and Norvell", it's not a total outsource to a firm. It's a combo of the firm and the local players.
