RE: AAC Announced Attendance Rankings Week 8 2019
SMU graduates are all over the country and world achieving. I'm sure there are some schools in this conference whose graduates simply move back in to the trailer with her parents. Who's in a better position to go to games?

I would think that graduates from the bigger cities would be the most likely to stay in those cities (Dallas/Houston/NYC/Philly/Chicago) vs those who go to schools in smaller "college towns" (Greenville/Tuscaloosa/Starkville/Gainesville/Clemson) where there really aren't many decent jobs.

But attendance?
Here's the deal. Long story short, TULANE could put every single current undergrad along with every single alumni living in the New Orleans city limit and we would barely sell out a small stadium. We will never have impressive attendance - even during the '98 undefeated season' days we struggled with attendance.
That's what the whole NOLA Built uniforms/billboards/marketing campaign is about. If we can't get some T-shirt fans, some average college-football-fan dudes from NOLA to pay $20 to watch a quality football team (that's the key, they have to be worth watching) then we can just expect 15k forever. TCU was able to get Fort Worth behind them and then join a conference whose fans brought people - that's why they built a new stadium. We have to follow that pattern.
TL/DR - we aren't going to impress anybody with attendance and we know it.
On the flip side. SMU and Tulane are private schools and the only thing keeping them from being TCU, Baylor, Miami, or Stanford is themselves.

I think a top 20, undefeated SMU under 23K is much funnier...but that's just me.

I think people fail to realize that the funny thing is UCONN claiming 20k fans there when they didn't even do $20k in revenue between the gate, concessions, and parking.

SMU should tear down the stands and just surround the playing surface with luxury suites so their 500 living billionaires (only a slight exaggeration) can sell out the stadium at $100,000 a seat.

I'm picturing 500 separate billionaires plus their families and retinues each getting their own distinct sections, with family crests displayed like a Game of Thrones jousting/melee tournament.
The commoners can sit in the grass.

You're more right than you know. SMU has always brought talent to the city of Dallas who stayed after they graduated, but when you have over half your student body coming in from out of state they also have a tendency to leave. I myself grew up in Memphis, went to SMU, and have lived all over the place due to the Army - now in Boston doing graduate work.
So many leave SMU and chase the jobs around the country. Good things and bad things because of that.

SMU needs to grow, as there are only 6,500 undergrads. They have been buying property for years and building dorms and classrooms all over the place. Can we get to 10,000 undergrads over the next decade? A few thousand more students would certainly help.
Even if that were possible, you will never attract the entire student body to every game, and have limitations with where alumni settle as mentioned above.
We need Dallas fans, we need bus-loads of fanatical Methodist followers - do they exist? They were quite tame when I was a boy, riding to games as part of the UMYF (United Methodist Youth Foundation). But it was one of those trips in the late 70s that changed me into a lifelong Mustang fan.
I like the outreach to Dallas. There are plenty of college football fans in DFW with no local team to support. In fact over 7 million folks call this area home. Surely, we can find 15,000 or so who enjoy a good football game on a Saturday afternoon.
