Think it's more about the depth of the team and who we are playing than anything else. She had more playing time last game than Bichelmeyer (who only payed in one set).

Another good effort. Don't be fooled into thinking any of these teams we're playing are any good, but still we're doing exactly what we need to (sweeps) to maintain our rankings. Realistically, our chance to host a regional will come down to the 1 or 2 matches against Western Kentucky.

Virginia Tech upsets #23 Louisville - that will help WKU move up in the rankings at least 1 spot.

Ole Miss goes down at home in a close 5-set match to A&M so they are no longer undefeated in the SEC.

RE: VB in conference play
Doubt we'll move up in the polls this week despite our two road wins. #18 Utah lost yesterday, but took #2 Stanford to 5 sets on the road, and wasted two match points in the final set.

On the positive side, I expect Nicole to win her 6th CUSA Player of the Week honor after her monster match vs. Marshall (23 kills, 14 digs in 3 sets), followed by a solid match yesterday vs. LaTech.

BTW, Stanford has now gone 6 - 0 with 2-time national POY, Kathryn Plummer, out of the lineup (including 3 of those matches with arguably their second best player, Fritzmorris, also out), and 3 of those wins were against ranked teams.

Does anybody know why our AD is so good with women's sports and so bad with men's sports?

RE: VB in conference play
Rice is in a much better position to be successful in women's sports. Increasingly, the best recruits are from upper middle class families who had the resources to invest in the club programs and travel teams that develop skills far beyond what schools, alone, will do. These families want their daughters to go to a school like Rice.

The new soccer coach, Brian Lee, wanted to move from LSU to Rice because i) he likes the small school environment and ii) he thinks that it will be easier to recruit the best soccer player to Rice.

There are lots of other reasons why it should be easier for Rice to be Top 25 in women's sports compared to men's; but the continued rise/important of club programs is a recent trend that favors Rice.

You could say the exact same thing about baseball and we’ve declined there...

I think you have a point in basketball..

Rice should be good with women's sports regardless of the AD because of the reality that there are very few professional sports opportunities for women compared to men, so the quality of the education should theoretically be more important for women athletes versus male athletes.
