Honestly, long term, St Thomas could be that 12th private school that the MVC is looking for to pair with #11 Murray State to maintian the public-private balance

Would be interesting to see where they could go with that. If they're successful in FCS then could the MAC be an option one day? Seems like they would fit. Of course, that would be much further into the future.
St. Thomas is a very good Division III program. I think they could beat some teams in the PFL now. They'll never get into the MVFC so long as there is an MVFC.

Guess I missed something. WHY would NCAA give them a waiver to go DI from DIII-----since normally going to DII first is required?? What special circumstance exists?

Maybe the lack of D2 Hockey helps them?

They'll have to fold the franchise.

Checking wikipedia....
There's a Northern Sun Conference, with 16 members, 9 of them in Minnesota.

If no waiver is granted, and I doubt that it will be rejected, then they're stuck in D3 without a conference. I doubt the NSIC adds them as they're looking to downsize should Augustana is the Tommies' SL replacement.

Hmmm... and how does this effect the Great Northern FBS Conference?
The montana Schools insisted on this before aligning with the Summit group .
Ah yes...I remember now. The Montana schools have rebuked every offer to move to FBS because they (and Idaho who moved down to throw off the scent of the BSC media) are really in cahoots with the UI and the Dakota schools to create an FBS conference with a record number of domed stadiums... or something like that.
The Big SKy has 4 currently (counting UND)
Idaho
Idaho State
North Dakota
Northern Arizona
MVFC has three:
NDSU
Northern Iowa
South Dakota

Article About St. Thomas
They are also reporting that the officials at Summit League will be making official campus visit to Augustana in a few weeks. It would be a coup that Summit League gets 3 schools to join in less than a year.

Yes, quite the coup! Can’t believe the Summit League was able to snag UMKC, St Thomas, and Augustana over the MAC and Big 10. All they need is Upper Iowa to make it the best off-season ever!!!!

St. Thomas, Minnesota
Butler, Indiana
Dayton, Ohio
Valparaiso, Indiana
Drake, Iowa
If Evansville could restart football, they could be in there as well.
Pioneer League Football do need to get more football and break into regions like Pioneer League Football Southeast, Northeast, Midwest, North Central, South Central and West Coast.
He's on a hot streak. It was Tarleton moving up last week.
Let me know when Upper Iowa goes DI
It’s happening. See link above. They wouldn’t grab Augustana for 11 if the master plan wasn’t Upper Iowa for 12. DavidSt is literally breaking the fabric of the universe.

May not be them, but Central Oklahoma be a travel partner for Oral Roberts. Either them or Central Missouri.

RE: MPLS Star-Tribune: Univ of St. Thomas Invited to Summit League pending NCAA waiver
NCAA Could Approve St. Thomas To Move To D1
Quote:St. Thomas Athletics Director Phil Esten said Thursday that the NCAA agrees that St. Thomas “look(s) like we could be and operate like a Division I institution” and the university will know more about its fate after the NCAA convention.
The NCAA is considering a number of legislative models that would address St. Thomas’s unique situation of being invited to the Division I Summit League last October, a jump from the Division III MIAC, from which St. Thomas was “involuntarily” removed last May.
“(The NCAA felt) as if this was something they wanted to address not through exceptions, but through process,” Esten said at the Undergraduate Student Government general council meeting.
Esten noted that those models will be reviewed at the NCAA convention Jan. 22-25 in Anaheim, Calif.
“They will hopefully select one model that would allow consideration of Division III institutions to directly reclassify to Division I,” Esten said.
Esten said he suspected that St. Thomas will know more about the possible fate of the university’s athletic programs after the NCAA convention.
So, they are looking at allowing D3 schools like St. Thomas who could show that they run a D1 peogram. As it is, NCAA do think the Tommies do run like a D1. You wounder who the strong D3 schools besides them could show that they could be D1 calibre in sports?
