Probably not what actually happened but ya never know.
This is exactly what I was thinking too
King was given every opportunity to learn the playbook but for whatever reason he failed to grasp what the head coach instructed him to do.
If Tune carries Houston to 6 - 8 victories King is definitely not coming back so King transferring will not be a painful blow as we thought it would be.
both takes a ridiculously wrong...dana already announced king was going to be the starter in 2020..and pez swore he would attack any school who even tried to contact him
he said king was going to core...
something i really hope is that these hot takes arent reaching king..
unts defense is trash, and tune had 200 total yards of offense and 1 td...carr did the heavy lifting

the exact same issues that happen in all the king games is what happen in this game to...
we had 1 td the 2nd half that had a passing play in it ..2nd half offense still an issue

We never had the chance for a conference title this season. Im sorry but if really thought we were ever going to win more than 6 games at best... well i got news for you it’s rebuild year, you don’t win championships in a rebuild year.

Nah, you just give up and quit when you think you can't win big.
We currently have our highest point total of the season with half the forth quarter still to play. Maybe Dana Knows what he’s doing.
It would be funny if Tune turns out to get better results than King. But that sure as hell isn't how it was promoted, so you can't have it both ways, lol. I mean, kids do often improve and blossom over time. The next seven games will tell. At least for me, the season just got a bit more interesting.

The last 2 times we pre-ordained a starter at QB it didnt go well (O'Korn replaced by Ward after a few games---and Allen replaced by King after a few games). King will likely be the starter in 2020 if he returns, but if Tune performs really well in 2019--King will have to actually win the job in camp if wants to start on opening day. And yes---I understand that Tune performing really well in 2019 is still a big "if".

Thats why I said the next 7 games will tell the tale. That said, he's already better than I thought he'd be. I fully expected to get blown out tonight. We were on the road----I thought Tune would be Mr 3-and-out and I figured our defense would continue the new tradition of completely blowing during the second half. But that's not how it went. So--for me, things got a little more interesting.

Tune would easily get redshirted next season. It would take a conference championship this year for him not to.

I think it would make for an interesting situation, for sure. But don't worry, lol. Tulane, Memphis and SMU are all going to finish ahead of you.
Hahaha... I will definitely not bet against Houston... Houston's offense will be clicking on most cylinders when Memphis faces us.
Or, you could be completely shredded by then, since you still have to play Cincinnati, SMU and at UCF before you see us.

We may yet be a 3-win team. Like you said, there wont be many teams on the schedule who our line will be able to push around like that. Tonight I saw some improvement and some reason for hope this year. If we can continue to log steady improvement over the year----what appeared to be a 3-win team might can grind out enough wins to become a bowl qualified team. Making a bowl in a rebuilding year aint bad.

What's funny to me is that as the season started, nobody was really calling this a rebuilding year for Houston.

Our last game in the prior season was a 70-14 loss and we dropped 4 of our last 5 games to finish the year. Applewhite wasn’t fired because because he had us set up for a NY6 run in 2019. Those who were really paying attention to the roster situation knew the program was headed in the wrong direction. The only way this year was going to be decent was if the defense found some magical way to “scheme” a defensive talent deficit into a “average” unit. That just wasn’t possible.
I’m pleased the administration cut the Applewhite era short before the programs issues got even worse. If we can have a period of stability, I think the transfer talent infusion, the increased red shirting this year, along with improved recruiting, should allow the program to bounce back pretty quick. Player development seems to be happening as it looks like more players are getting game reps on defense. That should at least help to reduce the fatigue factor for a thin defensive unit in the back half of the season.

but no one thought we would be good..... we were projected 7/8 win season before the year..
the way things are looking 6/7 wins isnt impossible, if make a bowl, in a conference where we have no bowl order...this season was an absolute win ..we technically arent even out of the west race yet
the beauty of this whole thing is not just getting seniors back for next season...its that the underclass have to step up this year ..we were originially supposed to be replacing 4 oline next season...with the senior that didnt play yesterday and the underclassman that played yesterday..4 of the 5 Oline next year will have 7+ starts

Maybe, but 7 or 8 wins is not a rebuilding year. It's a less than hoped for year. And if you make a bowl, it's still not a rebuilding year, lol.
Btw, you now have played 5 games. Where is the list of these 35 or so players who are now redshirting to reappear next year?
You can't redshirt anybody who has played in all 5 games now. My guess is that number is way overblown, or else most of the ones redshirting aren't the best players, anyway.

its going to be more than 35
we arent play a single true freshman...the entire incoming class is redshirting...
even before the king thing holgerson has been harping on about redshirting, that in good programs most of the players redshirt
the only true freshman that might not redshirt is his son and that is because we have no other qbs behind tune ..but we are attempting to redshirt him
that by itself is 15, 4 senior starters are redshirting. their have been 5 seniors who only played the fcs games who had the ability to be redshirted (we arent sure if the new coaches dont like them or if they were choosen to redshirt preseason)
thats about 25, we have about 7 transfers sitting out that are technically red shirting ..and thats just seniors and freshmen....tons of sophomore and juniors could be redshirted aswell.. (ie we were trying to redshirt tune)
someone is keeping track on our forum..there are about 45 still redshirt eligible players (not counting transfers)..even though we dont expect all of them to redshirt (missed a game on injury or something like that)

I'm generally reserving judgment on this whole situation until we see how it plays out next season. Houston isn't breaking any rules, so more power to them if the plan leads to success next season.

but no one thought we would be good..... we were projected 7/8 win season before the year..
the way things are looking 6/7 wins isnt impossible, if make a bowl, in a conference where we have no bowl order...this season was an absolute win ..we technically arent even out of the west race yet
the beauty of this whole thing is not just getting seniors back for next season...its that the underclass have to step up this year ..we were originially supposed to be replacing 4 oline next season...with the senior that didnt play yesterday and the underclassman that played yesterday..4 of the 5 Oline next year will have 7+ starts
The whole thing is overblown. Until we know for sure who drove the decision, it really cant be properly discussed and analyzed. For instance---was it a preplanned strategy or a reaction to King threatening to transfer? Regardless, the 35 number sounds high to me as well. Thats exactly one third of a 105 man roster. That said, I suppose its possible if you are really careful with how you manage reserve players who are on the bubble of being contributors---but my gut feeling is it wont be that high. I bet its well under 30. Maybe 25-27...perhaps less.
