I am leaning towards Troy having more talent with all their recent success. Our coaches have not proven capable of beating any team with more talent in the last couple of years.[/align]
247 says it's even. Average player rating is roughly 80.5 for both teams. Under Neal Brown it was clear they far exceeded their talent level, and it seems you guys going 6-5 last year underachieved. We don't how good Chip & Co. are, but I'm sure there is some carry over from the last regime. We brought back a lot of all conference dudes, and I don't expect them to be scrubs all of the sudden because there is a new coach in Troy.
Without a doubt, Troy's defensive front seven doesn't look like it's taken a step back. Very few guys are gone from last season's front seven. Troy held Campbell to 68 total yards midway through the 4th, and -34 yards in quarter number three, which tells me they are still really, really good. I do expect them to play well Saturday. The rest is relatively unknown. It's only the second game back for our QB after getting injured midway through last season. Troy torched Campbell in the passing game for 282 yards, but the pass protection wasn't always great. Campbell was #1 in FCS last season in pass defense allowing only 122 yards per game through the air. Not a bad showing for an entirely new unit.
Many of Troy's starters have recently faced a Buster Faulkner lead offense in Arkansas State. He's known for racking up huge yards between the 20s and not being about to put a lot of points on the board. His offenses have traditionally been ranked in the 50s and 70s in scoring offense. Not terrible, but not awful. He will pose some problems for us Saturday though.
My opinion: This game will go as far as Troy's offensive line can take them. I'm not sold on our offensive line coach yet, so we'll have to see what they do. Coaching will play a role as well. It's the first real test for the new staff. A lot of advantages for USM in experience as far as players and coaches are concerned.
