Arizona did take 2 of 3 from both Nats and Phils. But- didn't pick up anything on the Nats and lost ground vs the Mets.

July: 2.74 FIP/2.85 xFIP/2.78 ERA

Just so we have everything. His FIP 1st half to 2nd half is a good .47 worse in the 2nd half. Oh, and it's even worse since he became a starter only in 2012-
1st half 2.70 FIP
2hd half 3.23 FIP

Also, lets look at his homer rates...
1st half 0.8 hr/9 innings (0.836)
2nd half 1.1 hr/9 innings (1.149)

so a HR rate that is a good bit more.

So, not a pumpkin. I mean, his second half numbers are basically Patrick Corbin in 2019.

Except the BEST part of his 2nd half is over. He gets worse in August, and then his worst month by far of his career is September.

But still a solid pitcher, right?

Solid, maybe. But FanGraphs is projecting Sale to be a top 4 pitcher rest of the season. Sorry but that is drunk off their ass. Even Red Sox fans know that.

I feel like the smartest guy in the world right now. Sale with an absolute gem; 8/2/0/0/13 vs the angels

man, the Angels must really suck.....

j/k. I think. We'll know for sure the next 5 starts. @ Cleveland, Philly, @ Colorado, Minnesota, Yankees. Even 6th one probably will be @ Philly.

Question RE: 2019 MLB Thread
I'm getting really tired about hearing announcers and writers saying Dallas Keuchel is one of our best starters. he's been mediocre since we got him, and tonight gives up 8ER to Marlins, going less than 4 innings. He's like Gausman with a bigger beard. Braves down 1-9 to Miami. Not a good start to this series, after handling the Twins.

Acuna did hit his 30th HR, though.

RE: 2019 MLB Thread
thought that it was interesting what just saw- Sale's pitch in 7th inning to Pujols was 98.4 mph- his hardest pitch of the year....

I just wonder if Sale said to himself(or was told) **** this holding back ****- it isn't working- I'm just going to go all out now and if I get tired, I get tired.

This weekend’s series should be fun. With Buehler Friday and Ryu Sunday (anxious to see if he’s feeling 100%), I’d guess the games will be fairly tight. But I won’t be surprised if the Dbacks run up the score a little on Saturday. Maeda has been a little shaky/inconsistent lately, Young looks like the real deal, and LA’s offense has been weak against decent pitching the last few weeks.

Question RE: 2019 MLB Thread
Well, after Keuchel's 2-9 stinker, we also find out phenom Austin Riley partially tears up his knee in weight room, now on 10-day IL, but might be a lot more. Was in a recent slump, but with Markakis gone until late-Sept at earliest, not good.

The last two games in LA the Dbacks should have won and were low scoring affairs.

But we are so damn inconsistent - like the Washington series - get one hit off a scrub, then destroy two good pitchers in the next two games.

Dbacks finally win a game in LA, 3-2 in 11 innings that featured a benches clearing dance party after the game ended.

Arizona out hit the Dodgers 12-2! but could capitalize on numerous scoring opportunities, especially against Buehler.

Dbacks got 3 hits and 2 runs off of Jansen.

RE: 2019 MLB Thread
that hr off of Jansen was a real meatball.....

Nats with a choke job last night. They've been pretty resilient this year so hopefully will bounce back today. Have to admit, Doolittle is starting to worry me. Since Mid May he's got a 5.16 ERA. With a 3.86 FIP. After starting the season 0.95 ERA/2.37 FIP. Relievers are so streaky, so often when they start going- there is no bounce back at all whatsoever....

None of you would want to trade your team situation for mine, except maybe Swoosh. Dodgers and Houston will be in series, mark it.

I've been in North Carolina since Thursday. Went to sleep about midnight last night with Dodgers up 2-0, thinking "please pen don't blow this". Dammit.

Reading about the kerfuffle was fun. Baseball players are touchy little *******.

But I'm right so far about the series. I'm now doubly worried about tonight's game.

it's remarkable how crap almost ALL of the NL bullpens are.

going to make the playoffs fun to watch. No lead is going to be safe.

Happily wrong this morning! Offense still didn’t look great but Maeda was very good and bullpen didn’t bring the gas cans.

What the hell is going on with the Mets?

As I said, the Nats didn't bother to do anything at the deadline and it's going to cost them.

Hudson and Strickland have been actually really good(Elias too, but only 1 game). last night was Rodney's doing. Think it's very possible if not likely we see those 2 get the 7th/8th innings very soon.

seeing Ryu cementing himself as the NL Cy Young favorite right now. 7 shutout innings so far. Looking to go to 12-2 with a 1.45 ERA. Guys with those numbers win the Cy Young about 100% of the time.
