lots of bad teams in the AL inflate some of the teams records in the AL quite frankly.

So those AL teams are better by 30 percentage points?

you do understand that 30 points is literally just 1-2 games. It's absolutely no where the gap you want to portray. AL records are bloated because they get to play all the crap teams- 5 of the 6 worst teams in MLB this year are AL teams.

That's all well and good, but it's pretty clear that most of these top AL rosters are better than a lot of their NL counterparts. I don't care what the Cardinals interleague record is; they're clearly not much of a team. The Yankees, Indians, Astros and Indians are all clearly above every non-Dodgers NL team.

The Indians(who you have listed twice) are exactly 21-25 vs winning teams this year... Yeah that's great. Color me unimpressed. Oh, and if you meant Minnesota or Tampa Bay- they too are sub .500 vs winning teams. That's hardly clearly much above any non Dodgers NL team. That's being a bully vs Crap teams.

Not for nothin'--Braves just beat Minnesota 2 out of 3 on Minnesota's home field. Don't know how, but we scored bunches of runs in last 2 games, just enough to overcome bad bullpen.

5/3/1/0/10 so far for Sale. Absolutely dominating the Indians in Cleveland.

RE: 2019 MLB Thread
Think we can just about write off the Red Sox now. They are looking at being 8.5 back of Tampa for the 2nd WC spot. They have 40 games left and Tampa has 41 left....

Tampa goes 20-21 they would finish 91-71. Boston to just tie would need to go 28-12- a 113 win pace. That's not happening. Oh, and even if they go 29-11 to beat Tampa by 1 spot, they would need to have Oakland go worse than 25-18 as well....

he had gotten through 5.2 innings and was dominant. So I turned it off. I checked the score an inning later and realized after I turned it off he had walked Santana and given up a HR to Reyes. It's amazing how often he absolutely dominates, yet makes a few bad pitches.

Yeah, that's frightening. Dodgers went after Greene pretty hard for a while. Small sample size, and that's obviously not something you expect to sustain, but still... 04-jawdrop

Pitchers IP H R ER BB K HR PC-ST ERA
S. Greene 0.1 2 2 2 0 0 0 10-9 14.54

His line last night vs. Metz; ERA up to 14.54. Ya'll dodged the bullet that's hit us instead.

He's kind of reverse of Madbum from a few years ago. Madbum would have a bad first inning giving up like 2 runs and you'd say he's awful.... But then end of the night he'd have given up 2 runs in 7 innings...

Hey Nats, here's your chance to pick up a game: Dallas Kan'tchel pitching tonight for the Braves.

RE: 2019 MLB Thread
Blowouts are fun, especially when they involve position players pitching (Martin now is the greatest all time LA Dodgers pitcher to wear #55) and pitchers playing in the field (Kolarek played 1st), but when it's vs Marlins you have to temper your excitement.

I'm hopeful this is a bit of a spark to get the offense going - the last month LA's offense has been declining. Probably a combination of guys (Bellinger) regressing to the mean and lots of use of bench players. A game like last night's will tend to mask what has otherwise been essentially top 10ish performance over the last month. Nothing wrong with top 10 but it's significantly worse than where they were at the end of June.

On the other hand, starting pitching still looks very good and the bullpen is definitely trending in the right direction. Top 10 in both ERA and FIP, for LA's bullpen, is pretty good news. And this guy is fun to watch...

Since Hill and Stripling are almost certainly not going to be stretched out to starters innings in the post season, I'm hearing a lot of chatter about a tandem start of May/Hill or vice versa. Makes sense. May's gonna be up against an innings limit too so it makes sense in a lot of ways.

ETA: sorry for the long ad in the video - couldn't find it elsewhere.

some moves are just so amazing....

Nats picked up Asdrubel Cabrera after the Rangers released him... All Cabrera has done for the Nats so far is going into today .313/.353/.438 for a .790 OPS- and then today he goes 3-5 with 2 doubles. And fits in perfectly fielding as well...

Question RE: 2019 MLB Thread
So...tonight Metz Matz pitched brilliantly--only gave up 2 hits in 6iings: in 2nd inning, Braves scored the lone run of the game. Stays that way until 7th. Kan'tchel also pitched well for a change, giving up zero runs, but Braves Bullpen then starts yielding runs: Metz score 2 in 7th to take lead, 2-1. Braves then counter in bottom of 7th with 5 runs off Metz reliever Lugo. End of 7th core is 6-2 Braves leading again. We still have 2 innings of Braves Bullpen Madness ™ to go, but considering Nats and Phils both won, hope Braves can hold on to this one. Wonder who our closer of the day is tonight? Snit--whoyagonnagowit?

Edit: OMGoodness! Greene came in, pitched the eighth and didn't give up a run! No way! His ERA drops, as a bonus. Guessing Melancon in 9th?
Edit2: Yep, Melancon promptly gives up run #3 and has more Metz on bases with only 1 out. 6-3 Braves in top9th.
Edit3: aaaaand another run given up by Melancon. score now 6-4 Braves, 2 runners on, still only 1 out. Maybe Luke Jackson will come in to save it? haha--not.
Edit4: Pete Alonso was due, but grounds into FC. 2 out. Braves still clinging to a 6-4 lead. One out to go. This sux. Every night. Your bullpen is better. No matter which team you're pulling for.
Edit5: Wait--what? Did they appeal the tag at 2nd? All runners safe? Bases loaded with only 1 out now? Ramos up. 2478316y875y34yub!
Edit6: Ramos strikes out to mercifully help Braves out. Now onto the 4th out for the inning. Cripes this is terrible! 2 out, Brings in Jeremy Blevins to pitch to Conforto.
Edit7: has him 0-2. This is agony.
Edit8: Strikes him out swinging. Braves win, but Braves Bullpen absolutely sux worse than before the trades. I don't know what we're gonna do. Blevins gets his first save. All 3 of the new relievers stink: Greene, Martin and Melancon. Where's Pete Falcone?

don't worry Owl, if you had lost the lead, you would have gotten a shot vs the Mets Pen which is just as bad as yours.

03-lmfao This is fantastic - tracking the moment-by-moment suffering of a fan watching his bullpen attempt to melt down. Of course, as stever implies, what we're missing is Mets fans' even greater angst at having to watch Lugo give up the lead so horribly, when Matz had been having a terrific game and having thrown only 79 pitches.

RE: 2019 MLB Thread
it's interesting- In Jaffe's chat today on Fangraphs some talk about Kershaw getting in the cy young race.... I think it's very realistic. One thing though that Jaffe said that I disagree with. He said that he'd have to pass both Ryu and Buehler.... Ryu I get. But Buehler? I get looking at the advanced metrics.... SOME. But not totally basing everything on the advanced metrics....

And if it did get to the end and Kershaw was close- I could easily see a real boost to Kershaw- a makeup almost in some voters minds from 2015 and 2016.

Yeah, it's not hard to see him in the race as a contender. It's pretty remarkable what the guy has done to stay sharp. His fastball usage is down like 30 points from where he was 4 or 5 yrs ago. But I agree that Ryu would be the guy he needs to pass. Kershaw might be Dodgers #3 right now (today's shaky start by Buehler notwithstanding), but Buehler did his Spring Training in April. That alone says no to the CY. And I agree that giving Kershaw a makeup might happen, but it might just come from a sentimental POV as well. That said, Ryu would have to really tail off and Kershaw would have to finish with basically no bad games AND Scherzer would have to regress as well - he's ahead of Kershaw right now with all that time out. Tall order.

So Buehler's not having a terrible start, but - go figure - Dodgers are being no-hit through 4 by Caleb Smith. Prior to today he'd given up 12 ER in his last 16.2 IP.

Kinda true, as Metz' Lugo did give us 5 right after they scored the go-ahead 2. Ya'll been talkin' about how most all the bullpens are unusually bad in the NL this year. It is so weird to have a Braves team where the main problem is bad pitching, but the rest of the team is pretty good. Is this how the other half has lived? When I hear Brookes complaining about the Dodgers, I laugh and think he'd never trade his for ours. We won, so I'm satisfied with that, but watching a 4-run lead melt at the end is like nails on the chalkboard (unless you're the kind that likes that sort of thing.)

Yup, I'm always at your entertainment service 03-wink Still, When Lugo imploded, you have to answer with a wall of solidity...Braves BP always gives you a chance. It does make it exciting for the casual baseball fan, no doubt. For a die-hard born and bred Braves fan, it's excruciating. But glad you enjoyed it. We'll see hyou soon for 3, LA. Some good pitching matchups (as far as starters, anyway) in our upcoming series with ya'll. It's been hella hot and humid here, so I wonder if that might affect ya'll's stamina a bit since you guys have the milder weather out there?
