I smell long-term fear from these haters. They should be celebrating that we’re all in the same conference. CUSA has the potential to regain its former glory!

I actually like ODU (minus your small stadium and big egos.)
You guys are easy to get riled up and its fun to ruffle your feathers. Either way, I love first few weeks of football season cause I get to root for all the CUSA teams during that time.

No hate...very happy for them. Someone showed pictures of the backside of our stadium and said they didn't like it so I responded. Only one Herd fan is busting on ODU for this.
I get that. No one from ODU should be busting anyone's chops about the 'backside of a stadium'. The backside of their previous visitor section wasn't anything to brag about. Heck, the backside of Va Tech stadium where students sit is nothing to brag about.
Hmm i don't think anyone from ODU started going into the architectural/aesthetic details of Marshal's stadium before we got dragged into the conversation and its a UTSA fan and a Marshall fan that started this disk measuring contest.
WKUYG was talking exterior aesthetics, which I agree is somewhat important. You want a good looking stadium from the street. In the new stadium it seems the front (west side) will have some brick architecture and some kind of banners to cover the underside of the bleachers and will look pretty good. The other side will be mostly exposed from what I can tell. But yeah, it's just one Marshall fan taking jabs and I think he'd even admit it's an improvement from what we had. But when a Marshall fan takes jabs, then ODU fans respond in kind and then other Marshall fans have to jump in and defend their school. That's the way these things usually escalate. No big deal, message board bickering in the off season.
Pretty tame as bickering goes for this board, as well. But yeah, if you takes pics from the alley behind McDonald's and the alley behind the visitor's side of the Joan it's not much to look at. From 3rd Avenue and 20th street, the two main thoroughfares that drive past the stadium, it's as nice as anywhere. We're also a couple blocks from the Ohio River (2nd to the Mississippi in size) so the water table prevented us from going any deeper or we wouldn't have had to build the bleachers so high above street level. It's what we had to work with. You can see the stadium in the lower right with the river next to it:

Not riled up in the least. I find your insecurity entertaining. But make no mistake, we have the upper hand in the long run (macro facts - market size, state economy, athletic budget, etc). And it doesn’t matter what you say now or lobby for - time will prove out my point.

But, do you have the leadership?
Any advantages ODU may have over others in the east are only important if you have smart leadership that understands how to capitalize on them.

We’re playing in the FBS after only ten years. Would welcome your interpretation of that leadership. Coming back from 0-28, that was impressive game day leadership as well.

As yet undetermined, horseshoe it in somehow. Talk of a mixture of seating and some sort of party deck. Unofficial word is that next phase is more boxes to go under the press box, then third deck on west side (on either side of press box) and north end zone, last would be third deck on east side. The plans seem pretty fluid but that seems to be the general idea. Most of us feel the stadium won’t look and feel complete without the NEZ completed but money talks and boxes bring in the loot. Doing just the other end zone as mentioned would likely reduce overall capacity a bit.

ODU got into the FBS within 10 years, but have not been able to post consecutive winning seasons, and have an overall losing record in C-USA. You brought back your coach for another season, after he posted back to back losing seasons. Plus ODU was picked to finish 6th in the east this year in the preseason media poll. And, you are finishing the smallest stadium expansion I've ever heard of (2..3K more seats. What is the point of that?). None of that seems like quality leadership to me. It may take ODU quite some time to overtake Marshall based on where they are now, and what they appear to be doing.
And, ODU's comeback was par for the course last season. LA Tech, and UAB were able to do that too. That is a big reason why North Texas has a new/better OC this season. Also, even though Apogee is only about 8 years old, we are preparing to renovate and upgrade some of the stadium. I'll post more information (renderings, project budget, time frame, ...) later this fall when more information is made public.
You may be content with ODU's leadership, but based on some of their decisions, I have my doubts.

Way too long to read. But 0-28 clearly still stings. I enjoyed watching it in person. Time will prove my point - just be patient my friend.

Too long? Okay. Here is the pithy version...
* ODU has a losing record in C-USA
* Wilder has back to back losing seasons
* ODU has been picked to finish 6th in the east
* Adding 2 or 3K seats to your stadium is not much of an expansion
I question ODU's leadership and think Marshall remains a more dominant program.
LA Tech & UAB came back on UNT last year too. We have a new/better OC now.

Hope that isn't too long for you.
You have a small-minded viewpoint and are focused on small point-in-time details. Think bigger picture. We are playing at the FBS level after only ten years (in a coveted recruiting area/large market w/no major league competition) and have a basketball program with a rich history and much to offer. How long has Marshall been playing football? And I already mentioned the macro facts, which are undeniable. But 0-28 clearly still stings for you.
