I think without good leadership those advantages don't mean much, and brought up some issues. Believe me, I want ever program in C-USA to grow and get better, including UNT. I want C-USA to become a better conference. If I didn't, I'd be in favor of the regional realignment like others around here.

You attacked ODU's leadership. That is attacking ODU. I don't care if you attack or not, but when you do, expect to get hit back. Sorry.

I questioned decisions by your leadership and expressed the opinion that the Norfork market alone isn't going to move the needle for ODU. If you think that is an attack than you have some thin skin.

ODU got into the FBS within 10 years, but have not been able to post consecutive winning seasons, and have an overall losing record in C-USA. You brought back your coach for another season, after he posted back to back losing seasons. Plus ODU was picked to finish 6th in the east this year in the preseason media poll. And, you are finishing the smallest stadium expansion I've ever heard of (2..3K more seats. What is the point of that?). None of that seems like quality leadership to me. It may take ODU quite some time to overtake Marshall based on where they are now, and what they appear to be doing.

And, ODU's comeback was par for the course last season. LA Tech, and UAB were able to do that too. That is a big reason why North Texas has a new/better OC this season. Also, even though Apogee is only about 8 years old, we are preparing to renovate and upgrade some of the stadium. I'll post more information (renderings, project budget, time frame, ...) later this fall when more information is made public.

You may be content with ODU's leadership, but based on some of their decisions, I have my doubts.

Way too long to read. But 0-28 clearly still stings. I enjoyed watching it in person. Time will prove my point - just be patient my friend.

Too long? Okay. Here is the pithy version...

* ODU has a losing record in C-USA
* Wilder has back to back losing seasons
* ODU has been picked to finish 6th in the east
* Adding 2 or 3K seats to your stadium is not much of an expansion

I question ODU's leadership and think Marshall remains a more dominant program.

LA Tech & UAB came back on UNT last year too. We have a new/better OC now.

Hope that isn't too long for you.

Joe, I will give you the bullet points as well. Unlike others i am not taking offense you questioning our leadership frankly how can i, you are located in Tx and you might not know the details of a program in VA.

1. Wilder still being around: Being our one and only coach, longer leash.
2. Pre-season doesn't mean shite.
3. Its a total rebuild not expansion or renovation and limited by State and has to be done in stages so 67.5 MM is all we can afford for stage 1.

You can believe what ever you want to but our leadership is kinda twisted here whether to let go a coach that has brought us here to this point in our 10 year span or put up with a coach who can't recruit at FBS level and win games. In my opinion this is a make or break season for Bobby and honestly he is eating into reserves at this point. Our long season ticket waiting list has vanished and for the first time in our short history we didn't sell out the games last season. So yeah change is around the corner if he doesn't get us results this season, he will be gone because honestly we can't afford fan apathy at our level and the stage of our program.

Thank you for your very honest opinion of where ODU is at heading into this season. I agree with it.

If this season goes south for ODU like the poll is predicting, I think we will learn a lot more about the ODU leadership, and patience of their fan base.

Yes the "expansion" is small. The old clamshells on the sidelines were built in the 40s and nowhere near modern code. If they tried expanding them they we'd would have to be brought up to modern code which would have dropped capacity to 15k ish. The only feasible move was to tear down and build new. It is more of a rebuild than expansion. It is the size it is because we were limited by the state on the amount we could spend.

Now it makes sense to me. Thank you for the clarification. I do think the renovation looks nice, just couldn't understand why more seats weren't added. Is their a timetable for another expansion?

The next project is a rebuild of the north endzone. That project will enclose that side of the stadium and connect the east and west sides. They are hoping to do that within the next 3 to 5 years.

That project is also more about fan amenities than expanding capacity. That phase will likely also include additional suites built on the west side and a new club area in the NEZ.

That will probably be a great visual addition, but how many new seats will your stadium have after that expansion?

I question how much a program can actually grow if there are no seats for new fans to sit in at the stadium.

RE: ODU'S NEW STADIUM - COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF
I never though of Bobby Wilder as a very good FBS coach. But as the face of ODU football and with a 10 year winning season just 3 years ago. I can see why Wood gave him a 3rd year before firing him. I also have mixed feeling on Wood but overall I think he's a good AD. The man has lead 2 schools to the FBS along with two stadium rebuilds in the past 12 years

I question how much a program can actually grow if there are no seats for new fans to sit in at the stadium.

I understand TV has killed in-stadium attendance so I don't expect ODU to ever open up to 50k (or even 40k), but I hope that the NEZ additions don't kill off too many seats as I think that may come before the East and West grandstand additions. ODU did a great job of "selling out" for I think 60+ games since our rebirth in 2009, and I think the admin cared a little too much about that streak. There always were seats available, especially the last few years but many thought it was too hard to get a seat when they could have easily gotten in because we always declared the "sell-outs" ahead of time, which deterred new fan turnout. I would rather have 25,000 fans in a 30,000 seat stadium than 22,000 fans in a 22,000 seat stadium. With the grandstand additions and whatever rework they do to the NEZ, I hope that the capacity can get up to a respectable level (hopefully crossing the 30K threshold). But it may be several years until that happens, unless we move up or start going on a winning tear and actually hit "butts-in-seats" capacity unlike the bs reports this past season

EDIT: I don't want this post to seem like I am unhappy about the new stadium. I saw it in person for the first time last weekend and was really impressed. Old Foreman Field was nice and historic but the new renovations make it feel like a college football stadium, something we lacked in the past. I can't wait to see it full and experience it from the inside for Opening Night
