Pretty weird hill to die on here, bro.

Mississippi has had casinos for 27 years.

Mississippi is ranked 50th of all states in per capita income.

Mississippi has a 8.9% unemployment rate compared to a national average of 3.8%.

Mississippi is ranked 50th in poverty rate.

The people of the state of Mississippi are the ones dying on the hill and the casinos aren’t coming to help.

Mississippi is far from the only state with casinos. And Mississippi's perpetual status at the bottom of your lists is independent of casinos.

People are going to get their fix however. Just like prohibition didn't stop drinkers, or the war on drugs stop junkies ruining themselves, if people want to gamble, they're going to.

I agree with that. They are going to do it in a casino on a blackjack table or in a back alley craps game.

I just don’t subscribe to the philosophy that the government should propagate the misery.

Excellent point. Hernando has bought two different styles of police cars in the last 3 years.

Maybe so----but I played on (Paradise/Party poker/Full Tilt/Pokerstars) and did well. I live 1.5 hrs from Horseshoe---that drive gets old---but I make it pretty often.

Forget jockeying for online sports gaming. Legalize casino gambling in Tennessee, create an amazing casino strip in the Northside/Frayser/Pinch area where tons of vacant land is to be had and let'er rip...Memphis would become one of the premier convention cities east of the Mississippi River.

If the state of Tennessee would use the revenues to assure that every student would have the option to attend a state funded 4 year university for free, I will be the first to vote for casino gambling. At least they would be attempting to break the chains of poverty. And I am not referring to some merit based scholarship. I’m talking ALL students.

Yep but unfortunately, we are in the f***ing Bible Belt so we let all the money go over to W. Memphis and Tunica. Put a casino downtown and another area like G'town Tiger stated and Tunica and WMem may as well shut their doors.

Even ones that aren't college material and should be steered another way?

That's why it was shot down in TN. MS & AR just capitalized on our stupidity.

It never should have been banned. If you can bet on the stock market you should be able to play poker, a game of skill.

Its is so easy to obtain a 4 year scholarship as it is now that there should be no additional incentive for them. If you cant get a 4 year free ride right now in TN, you dont need to be anywhere near a 4 year campus.

yep

TN students have been getting 2 free years of college, regardless of their high school test scores or GPA.

Since 2014.

Those that make a half ass effort in high school can get 4 years for free via test score or GPA.
