This is awesome. I can't attend but I'll be sure to watch (wave to the camera for me!)

Whatever one thinks of her and her moves she deserves all the credit for this.
I’m granting partial credit at this phase. I’d love to give full credit, but she has to be willing to really answer questions. I will even give some leeway that there are some I can’t realistically expect her to answer (although I have no problem with people asking them). If she no comments and deflects all questions that don’t fit her narrative, it will not be “all the credit” in my book.

Yes, it will go the way wml33t says. I don't expect her to answer any hard questions (with real answers, I mean). And, bubbadog, the reason it is unprecedented is because no other, previous AD ever screwed up enough to make such an event necessary.

For those who are submitting questions (or who have good ideas for questions but aren't submitting because you can't attend, or whatever), it would be interesting if you would share them.

If someone could submit a question about OTOD MBB numbers for 2018 and 2019 ...

If they allow more than one question per person, I will ask that question.

Yup.

Will be interesting to see whether this is too much parsing, or whether too many Shaver questions will be shut down on the grounds that “we’re here to talk about the current situation and how to move forward”.

My one submitted question was a Shaver question.

Please ask Huge when she is "going to raise the bar" on the "quality" and physical attributes of the W&M Cheerleaders?

Here is the question that I submitted for the Town Hall with Huge:

What are the specific facts you used to arrive at your decision to fire Coach Tony Shaver instead of giving him 1 more year to reach the NCAA?

Mine was almost identical ... so they got at least two questions on the same subject.

Don't get too excited. A town hall is usually just a chance for whoever is doing it to share information. My guess is that there will be very limited attendance and the room will be loaded with "friendly" alumni supporters. She will talk for most of it and show some type of slides or a video and then answer questions for 5 minutes.

I suspect you are correct but hopefully it won't be. If it does not contain a live "Q&A session", where people can ask their questions in real-time, this is pretty pointless. She could just do a video update responding to questions submitted. Part of being a true leader (as she calls herself on her Twitter account and by job title is in fact the leader of the athletic department) is standing up in front of others and explaining your decisions and future plans. At no point should this Town Hall be a public execution/humiliation of her, but she should stand up and answer respectfully asked, difficult questions, without having to know them in advance. If you are confident in your actions, you should be able to properly explain and defend them.

While I'm all for criticisms of Huge and other administrators who were involved with this MBB debacle, this comment about the cheerleaders crosses a line I don't think should be crossed.

RE: Athletics Town Hall Meeting with Huge
Unless the AD stands there, and takes all the questions that folks want to ask about Tony Shaver, and provides answers to those questions, there is no “moving on” for a critical portion of the fan / donor base.

If the AD runs this Town Hall in a scripted and “packed” venue, that decision will be a bad as the decision to fire Tony Shaver. If she wants to directly insult those that she has invited to attend and ask questions by running a dog and pony show, then she should be fired.

Athletics Town Hall Meeting with Huge
I'm all for Huge being transparent and trying to answer as many questions that are thrown at her. However, there are no answers that she can give that are going to satisfy everyone about Shaver. She will answer that she felt the team was at a hump and thought new leadership was necessary to get over it. It is a fair enough response from her but not the answer many want to hear. Like was mentioned, the town hall is geared towards towards plans moving forward. She may politely address some of the past, but too much will probably shut it down. That is not the point of the forum.

RE: Athletics Town Hall Meeting with Huge
Count me among those who were stunned and mortified about the Shaver decision and who honestly thinks about it every day BUT ...

What kind of response can she give to the why did you fire Shaver question that would be satisfactory?

If she says anything about Fischer other than she is delighted to have him THEN she should be fired.

If she breaks into tears and says she made a horrible mistake firing Shaver THEN she should be fired.

If she criticizes Shaver, it’s not fireable but it’s classless.

Questions I would ask:

1). What additional structural support will the College be providing W&M or do we believe switching coaches is sufficient?
2). Is the severance pay for Shaver coming from the Athletic Department budget? The MBB budget?
3). What are the anticipated revenues from the internet streaming deal and where will they be allocated?
4). Is there any consideration towards dropping or adding sports?
5). What is the future of the CAA and our membership in it?

IMHO, the decision to fire Shaver was an inexcusable costly mistake. I have to assume that Rowe knew about it and supported it. Black marks on both of them and it’s up to the BOV to determine how to address this fiasco. In the meantime, and I think for a long time, they are our President and Athletic Director and I don’t need them failing to slake my need for justice.

However, the is a gutsy and welcome move by Huge. I look forward to hearing her speak, since does not, as far as I am aware, post on this message board. I don’t know of any other ADs who would be willing to do this. And the answers aren’t rehearsed and scripted I would be disappointed.

She may not satisfy everyone, but if she doesn't drill down on specifics and own them, then she's lost my trust as the leader of the athletic department. Shaver is gone, I get it. But she stands to lose much more and make things much worse if she answers as you describe.

Great post. I'm much more interested to hear news on the important stuff - how will the program be supported going forward and what steps are in place to give the program the resources it needs to compete?

Below is the answer to question 3. Instead of each school receiving $50,000 to $75,000 per year, the CAA is using the money in an attempt build the conference's basketball brand. I think it's probably a good idea.

https://www.postandcourier.com/sports/ca...c7b6c.html

The conference will also use the revenue from FloSports to buy more games on CBS Sports Network. Instead of each school receiving between $50,000 and $75,0000 a year, the conference decided to invest that money to broadcast men’s basketball games on a national level with CBS Sports Network. The CAA will have eight nationally televised games on CBS Sports Network during the 2019-2020 season.

“We made the strategic decision that we wanted to enhance the CAA’s basketball brand,” College of Charleston athletic director Matt Roberts. “So instead of each institution taking a small part of that money, we made the intentional effort to reinvest that money into other broadcast opportunities.”

The number of games on CBS Sports Network could increase to as many as 16 CAA games per season over the next few years.

”Before this deal, we had no nationally-televised home CAA games,” Roberts said. “The only national games we had were the semifinals and finals from the tournament.”
