Good to see some recruits on board, especially excited to see someone that prides in D, Will be interesting to see if that D translates, or regresses.

Good right up to the last sentence where they feel the need to point out we were 10-23 last year LOL

Haha, nothing quite like SOS! Getmhawks has the best sugar foot in the history of sugar foots. He could teach these boys how to drop step, whirly bird, then twinkle toe all the way to the hoop. Hopefully when Rob B moves on to become a head coach at a high major D1 program; Getm will apply for a job with this staff. His influence would be immeasurable.

Boogie Woogie was hitting the sauce last night.

Rob B is on that fast track. His sideline enthusiasm could never be replaced.

Roster has been upgraded for sure. Until we land a defensive minded/rebounding center to play with Linssen with that last scholarship, recruitment is still incomplete. (I think it will happen though)

Everyone should keep in mind one important fact: HC still has to teach these guys solid defensive fundamentals within a defensive system. The unsightly blemish of a D1 defensive ranking of #345 must be addressed. That cannot be hung on the players anymore or the usual comment, "They made some tough shots!" We all knew from the beginning that if he had a strength it would be recruiting but it's how you use the pieces that matters.

Really all that needs to be said. I expect a staffing change this summer but that's for another thread.

Just listened to Brian Mull and Patrick Johnson discuss the Phillips commitment on the radio and they were raving about this pickup for the Seahawks. Also, didn’t realize how bad Dooley wanted Phillips at ECU... makes it even sweeter. PJ also called ECUs lack of recruitment of Dodd a boneheaded mistake... Mull finished off the segment by saying that McGrath has recruited a very talented nucleus, but now it’s time produce...

Mull is an opinion I respect in college ball about as much as anyone. He’s never one to hype anyone too much and is always skeptical. He had to cover a tough time during UNCW basketball but somehow kept it interesting for us. He was usually brutally honest in his assessment of us during his time and was almost always accurate in his predictions. He’s a great follow on Twitter if you don’t follow him.

I asked for a link? I provide a link! Mull starts just before the 28 minute mark.

Recruit Updates
Just listened. PJ is super high on Dodd and Phillips. Mull seems to really like them too, but slightly apprehensive from the excitement level PJ was at with them. This is the year for McGrath, and Mull made good points about the CAA and it being wide open. With the young recruits we have, our biggest concern in the future is going to be retaining them. The transfer portal will continue to be a nightmare for mid majors, even good programs. Mull also didn’t hold any punches discussing WM’s mistake of firing Shaver and going from a contender to what he believes is the bottom third of the league.

Fun listen, and encourage all to listen if you haven’t already. Thanks GM and 70s for the info and link.

Hard to disagree with anything that Mull had to say.

Patrick Johnson apparently hasn't been paying attention to the recruits we have signed because I don't think either of those guys were our top targets. We've been out of the PG market for weeks. We signed 2 JUCO PG's in the fall, both are highly ranked JUCO's one #7 overall nationally on 247 who will only be a sophomore and the other #36 who was at rotation player at Virginia Tech before JUCO's. We also got a 6-5 freshman PG that averaged 37ppg 9rpg in high school that was a silent commit for weeks per 247.

We had no more room for Phillips and he averaged 16ppg, 3rpg, 3apg shooting 33% on a low volume of 3's honestly I don't think he is as good. Pretty similar story on the wings we signed as well. I really don't know who P. Johnson wanted us to not sign to get Dodd or Phillips. Can't sign everyone.
