RE: Brooks
I could be wrong on this. But I always thought schools gave you 5 years of tuition as long as you were wither pursuing your under grad or a new grad degree? I am almost positive he could have had a spot as a grad assistant, or the other of not to continue to pursue his education here. Again, but maybe he didnt want to be here. But I am pretty sure the tuition part would not have been an issue to have been covered if that was what his concerns were. Oh well...

RE: Brooks
I'm not sure i follow the Nsoseme reference unless it's to fortify that there are some athletes pursuing specialized degrees? I don't mean to hint that a lot of guys are not in it for the academics as clearly some are. Quite a few in football, but much bigger number of players as well.
I thought from the comment earlier possibly Nysier was gong to study under the George Costanza Honors Progam in marine biology as a hurricane. My guess is he would need to start kind of early for that pursuit so it might be more than an added year involved. Oh well, good luck Nas.

Brooks is gone so I say who cares why he left. I’m more interested in focusing on players on our team, or players that may join our team.

Tell that to Mrs. Johns.
Honestly academics is great reason to move on.
This is literally what I said when he announced he was looking. 2 free years of education at a school of his choice.
That'd be a good reason to transfer.
But if that was truly the reason, why didn't he try Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Stanford, Cal, Michigan, etc? Or even Georgia Tech, Purdue, Wisconsin, or Virginia Tech, which have much better academics in most fields than Miami?
Not saying I don't believe him. I couldn't find his major online so maybe he's studying a weird field that Miami is top-10 in. But I can't imagine what field that would be.

Just what’s been posted on places like here, Twitter, and other sites. Hopefully once the new staff is in place and settled in, there will be more details on potential recruits/Transfers.

I'm wondering if this thread set a record for the longest thread ever about a player who averaged 8 points a game? You'd think they lost an All American. I agree, he's gone (and so is Mick).....time to move on.

I had him ranked the 5th most important player to return for next year based on the roster.
1. Cumberland
Huge gap.
2. Scott
Small gap
3. Kieth Williams
4. Logan Johnson
5. Brooks.
Then everyone else is roughly equal.
Cats actually have some front court depth or they can play a style to doesn't require a traditional 6-11 big as well.

Yeah...a lot of people don't really understand how good Miami is as an academic institution. If it is indeed simply to set him up for the next 50 years, instead of the next 2, it's a great choice for Nysier to pursue every avenue to get as academically credentialed as possible (as I've said a few times on here).

Isn't Miami one of the three or four private schools in the ACC?

Yes, along with Boston College, Duke, Wake Forest, and Syracuse (Pitt was previously private until the 70's, they are now considered "state-related" in the PA system).

I don't see much front-court depth. Interested to hear your thinking along those lines.
I expect Scott to have a nice year. I don't see how he could play the 5 for 30 minutes though. It will be an interesting year if he does.
Nsoseme is a good rebounder and decent defender, but he's extremely limited on offense. Like, you really can't pass him the ball.
Diarra is talented but raw. Although he might stand to improve the most under Brannen. Hard to see 20 minutes a game out of him though.
No idea about Prince Gillum but I don't expect much from a low-ranked redshirt freshman.

Basically gave us one decent year and 2 non contibuting years. UC spent resources on him so he could develop, I am not going to saybhe gave us a whole lot. Next
He did improve some on offense but his horrible stupid fouls hurt us a lot. Is it possible he was leaving even if Mick was still here? interesting. Anyways, he moved on and so shall I. Looking forward to who Brannen finds to replace him. Maybe Diarro will get a chance to show his talent.

You have Laquill Hardnett also he was the higher rated of our redshirts. Watching his highlights( all players look good in those reels) he looks to be perfect for Brannen's offense; he appears to be able to score inside and out. Would be interesting to know how he looked in practice this year.

His reasoning is probably the new act like anyone who leaves sucked anyway, that is going around.
Seriously, put a Sophomore who barely was able to touch the floor last year over arguably our second best player last year. As you point out, with Brooks leaving we lack as much or more (if Cumberland returns and plays PG) at Center then we do at PG. Diarra is still raw and was frequently lost when on the court last year, Nsoseme couldn't do anything on offense (hopefully due to injuries and he will improve). Even if Scott plays the 5, who plays the 4? Gillam/Hardnett might be just as raw or even more so then Diarra/Nsoseme.
Our best players last year were.
1. Cumberland
gap
2. Brooks
3. Scott
small gap
4. JJ
5. Williams
6. Broome
Our most important players next year would have been.
1. Cumberland
small gap
2. Brooks
3. Scott
small gap
4. Williams
small gap
5. whoever can play at least average at SG or PG (Johnson/Moore/Hardnett/some new guy)
Gillam was low rated, but his low rating is a mirage. He was low rated because he unexpectedly reclassified, who knows how high he'd be rated if he has stayed in HS another year. We can't really know how good he will be until he gets on the court. But the fact that he reclassified then redshirted is no reason to dismiss him.

had a booster friend tell me that Prince was one of the best players in practices. Of course, Mick and Terry Nelson always said Trevor Moore was a SUPERSTAR SHOOTER in practice. Who knows?
