RE: Pro Dukes
Obvious point here but would love to see Jmu go on a run of a few years in a row with a draft pick. Even late rounds- year over year it builds momentum and helps with recruiting. The goal for Jmu as FCs is perennial championship contender, consistently getting guys drafted and winning every year vs FBs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but looking at that article it looks like the chiefs signed James Williams to a UDFA deal and Marcus Marshall is the only RB invited to the minicamp.

According to the Chiefs roster, there are 6 RB's currently on the team (3 with the last name Williams 01-wingedeagle):

Carlos Hyde
JD Moore
Darwin Thompson
Damien Williams
Darrell Williams
James Williams

What kind of chances does this give Marshall at making the team if he performs well at the minicamp? I feel like most NFL teams keep 5-6 RB's on a roster but I could be wrong. From my memory, Marshall doesn't have special teams experience so that won't benefit him.

Edit: Wait, I do remember Marshall doing a lot of kick return now that I think about it. That should help his case.

“....Only 13 FCS players were selected in the 2019 NFL Draft last week — the lowest total in the decade. But the start of a new decade offers the possibility of a bumper crop for the lower half of Division I.

NFL Draft Bible offered an early look at 2020 FCS prospects, listing 34 FCS players in its top 250 seniors. The FCS players on the list:

67. Malachi Jean, DT, Prairie View A&M
93. Rashard Robinson, CB, James Madison
101. Sam Kamara, DT, Stony Brook
117. Nigel Kilby, TE, Southern Illinois
132. Ron’Dell Carter, DE, James Madison
137. Jequez Ezzard, WR, Howard
145. Sterling Jenkins, OT, Duquesne
157. Isiah Swann, CB, Dartmouth
159. Josh Pearson, WR, Jacksonville State
160. Marlon Bridges, FS, Jacksonville State
177. Cam Gill, OLB, Wagner
178. Dante Olson, ILB, Montana
179. James Robinson, RB, Illinois State
180. Manny Patterson, CB, Maine
183. Christian Rozeboom, ILB, South Dakota State
185. T.J. Floyd, CB, Princeton
186. Zack Johnson, OT, North Dakota State
187. J’Von Brown, OG, Central Connecticut State
188. Nick Wheeler, DE/OLB, Colgate
189. John Daka, OLB, James Madison
191. Noah Johnson, OG, Idaho
193. Reid Harrison-Ducros, CB, Duquesne
195. Michael Bandy, WR, San Diego
196. Zach Hall, ILB, Southeast Missouri
197. Jonas Griffith, ILB, Indiana State
200. Charlie Taumoepeau, TE, Portland State
202. A.J. Hines, RB, Duquesne
208. Chase Vinatieri, PK, South Dakota State
219. Kameron Brown, WR, Charleston Southern
234. Tyrone Wheatley Jr., TE, Stony Brook (not listed on current roster)
235. Jamond Glass, CB, Samford
238. Mason Alstatt, SS, Wofford
249. Jamari Hester, WR, Jacksonville State
250. Tom Flacco, QB, Towson

Remember 2019 draft were 256 drafted..
JMU, JSU & Duquesne 04-jawdrop tied for the most at 3...
Surprised Stapleton not among the 34/JMU’s 3..

Since that list is only seniors, obviously many will get pushed down the list once underclassmen are considered. One thing I saw says 73 underclassmen were just drafted. If it's about the same next year, then the cutoff will be at 183. Only 15 FCS players on that list ranked 183 or above, so not much better if chalk holds.

Marcus Marshall has signed a contract with the Chiefs following his rookie mini camp invite. Is that 11 Dukes on nfl rosters? I’m losing count.

Good point. If you figure Jabril Cox comes out early and is an early round pick, then that would put the over/under next season at 16 being drafted, which would be right just under the 17-18 a season average going back the last decade..

If Degenerate’s updates are correct, 8 on NFL rosters. 9 listed under ‘Active’, including Cardon Johnson, who has a rookie minicamp invite, but not under contract with a training camp roster spot.

Yeah biggest thing with getting a contract is that no matter what happens he will get a few dollars in his pocket as they will almost always pay at least some signing bonus. I saw where one UDFA got a bonus of upwards of $150K which more than some 6th and 7th round picks.

I think it is much more typical to get a $5-10k signing bonus for UDFA. Each team can only pay $100k total for signing bonuses to UDFAs. Teams will work around that by offering guaranteed money for workouts and camp though (i.e. lower singing, higher total comp). I'm not sure if a try-out player that signs after rookie minicamp is included in the $100k total or not, I would assume so.

It's all market driven. If a team feels a tryout player might get interest from another team they may give them a few thousand dollars, but for guys struggling to make a 90 man roster they may not get much more than a reserved slot.

If you ever track some of these borderline guys, they are often signed/released many times over the course of the pre-season and season. This early, it's really just a guaranteed shot at 90 man roster vs anything close to a guarantee of making the final roster. Ankrah hasn't really been mentioned much at all by the skins after "signing" a "multi-year" deal but he's going to have to survive cuts just like all these rookies and undrafted free agents.

I wish all the Dukes well in their pursuits, the process for these young guys is filled with an emotional rollercoaster ride of highs and lows that must be brutal to experience. Much to be proud of.
