Yeah, but the MVC is a very tough FCS conference. It is better than some FBS conferences.
Also WSU's FB stadium only seats 6K so it is too small for anything but small time FB.
WSU should stick with D2 and the GLIAC. Their closest D2 competition is SVSU and the GLIAC is a nice league.
I will mention as I may have in the past, that I have an undergraduate degree from Wayne State so I'm familiar with the school and its athletics even
though it has been decades...
I'm guessing that WSU would like to be D-I but has no appetite,, success, financial assets for D-I scholarship FB.
As I suggested, getting into the Horizon League would be a very good move for them getting 'equality' with UDM and OU in hoops and not going broke on FBS or FCS FB.
They could go non-scholarship FB like CC's Drake program OR drop football completely and be 100% Horizon.
3,000 seats would be ideal for a G-League team (D.C. has a new arena for its new G-League team and Mystics) which seats about the same.
Honestly, that would be a very smart (futuristic) decision to drop football for WSU.
I think that is a realistic possibility.
Just remember FB is usually the sport which drives conference affiliations.
IF a school doesn't have football they aren't going to be in the B1G, MAC, etc. Likewise, they can't be in the GLIAC, which is keyed on D-II football.
So if WSU wants to drop FB they'd need a new conference...
I was wrong about the MVC. They have FB (FCS) and non-FB members. Think I got it right.
As I indicated earlier, there is a non-scholarship FB league, Pioneer Football League, which doesn't give FB scholarships.
To pivot back to EMU, I think having another D-I in the Detroit Metro area would be good for MBB in S.E. MI. There is an intense rivalry between OU and UDM. No reason EMU can't be part of it.
I would like to see doubleheaders at say the O'rena. OU vs EMU and UDM vs. say CMU. EMU could and should do home and home with OU, UDM and WSU. Three of our OOC games would be bus rides to or from the Convo.
We need to do more with other HL schools like No. Ky, Wright State, etc.
