Might not blow you away with his measurements or stats, but he makes plays that don't necessarily show up in the stat sheet. We could definitely use some more players of that mold. Seems like a younger Gadsden.

Agree. With all those offers too, it's surprising he hasn't committed to any of them yet. That definitely plays into our favor. That and snaking a kid out of CofC's backyard would be a nice touch.

Also, he has a 4.0 GPA. Sounds like a kid that would be a great addition to the program.
interesting, not something you see with kids that go JUCO route often

He's not a JUCO, he's an unsigned senior. I believe his high school in Columbia, SC won back to back state championships.
ahhh! Makes sense. My bad, clearly i was skimming!

RE: Recruit Updates
My concern about additional offers is it means we aren't confident in who we've already offered coming on board. Is there any limit to how many offers can be out based on open scholarships?

It's not uncommon to offer more ships than you have. It tends to be a safety measure to either go ahead and put the pressure on players to make a decision and to help insure you have another possibility instead of sitting on an offer late and that player ends up committing elsewhere, and leaving us scrambling.

I don’t believe there is a limit on offers. Keep in mind we have 6 open scholarships as of now and I’m not even certain we’ve offered all of them.

It appears that Harvey is a reclassified Junior and UNCW offered him a scholarship for 2019. So he would actually be a part of this current class if he choses to bypass his senior year of high school. Hope that’s not too confusing. Harvey was on campus this past weekend with the other visitors.

RE: Recruit Updates
I think Tolefree is the most likely to commit of the players that have been on campus so far. For players with higher offers like the Valpo kid etc, UNCW is a tough sell based on the turn the program has taken. One good season necessary to put us back on track. The quality/size of the incoming players this year will be telling.

From a pure basketball perspective, he's not wrong. He's also not wrong that a good season would put everything back on track for recruiting, retention of players, and cool heads from fans. 82 is also right that UNCW offers these kids more than basketball. The beach, beach atmosphere, etc is a draw. Let's face it, the school year is a bit longer than the season meaning there's no discounting everything else about UNCW and the surrounding area. If that's NOT part of the recruiting pitch, than we're doing it wrong. Next time a recruit is in town on the weekend they should take them to the Pier on a warm Saturday afternoon and let the beach speak for itself for an hour or so.

They’ve been taking them out on a boat to Palm Tree Island. They are definitely pitching the Wilmington lifestyle, as that is their best selling point right now. If a player doesn’t sign, it’s because of basketball reasons.

Palm tree is gone. Hurricane took it last fall.

They took them somewhere on a boat... Possibly Masonboro, looked like Palm Tree Island to me, but apparently not... Sad to hear that, I was unaware. Had some fun times out there.

True. A great story about a 6' 11" recruit from Iowa (some fans will know who it was). He was asked what caused him to decide to come to the Dub, he replied, "I looked out the window from the hotel and saw nothing but miles and miles of beautiful beaches - back home I could see nothing but miles & miles of cow $hit." A lot of times it is location, location, location.
