To bad she's anti-capitalist. If she'd nab an MBA to go along with her degree in German she could probably land a good job at some engineering or building firm dealing with German manufacturing/design companies. I haven't talked to her in years, but a friend from high school got her business degree and was a fluent German speaker. Last time I talked to her about 8 years ago, she was working with Volkwagen of America. Its not like the managers at VAG can't speak English, but the simple ease of being able to speak German with her won her the job.

I did a lot of administrative law in my career, so I was in Austin often. What never ceased to amaze me is how provincial and insulated from the rest of the world they are in outlook. I mean, I'd be working on a team with a couple of lawyers, a couple of CPAs, and 2 or 3 PhDs. We'd all go out to dinner, and it would be impossible to have a conversation about anything that happened outside Travis County.

According to Densa and his egregiously self-serving article (someone trying to justify their own degree) this makes her 'more worthy' than a Master Electrician, Mechanic Plumber, lots of police etc or many IT specialists.

Google and Facebook recognized this and recently dropped this requirement. They realize that they miss out on significant portions of talent by having such a requirement, and they also get lots of people with degrees, but no sense.

I went to college. I have a Construction Management degree. I build beautiful functional buildings. I also know that sometimes the older gentleman on the working end of the shovel probably knows more than someone like you.
