Athletically-is Liberty our Daddy?
Football crushed us 52-10. Basketball win in the first round of the tournament. So the question needs to be asked. Is Liberty our Daddy? Discuss.

I think 330 division 1 basketball programs would love to be where Liberty basketball is right now.

RE: Athletically-is Liberty our Daddy?
Liberty has never beaten ODU in basketball. This discussion is a waste. Let’s play. I would like to see us schedule more often but until then we bow to no one. If they played at the ted this year we win.

If we had kept LaRussa in we might have won in FB. Granted they still sliced up our secondary but it sure as hell would have been closer.

Liberty would not be in the dance if they were in C-USA. Atlantic sun is a joke. C-USA might not get a ton of respect but it’s a very hard league to win

I think we beat Liberty that game with LaRussa at QB and lose vs VA Tech with him. Reason we beat VT is they hadn't seen LaRussa and our wide receivers play like that..

Liberty has almost unlimited potential.
It's total asset figure has now eclipsed that of VT (almost double now), and is second only to UVA in the state of Virginia. Even that 2nd hierarchical position is probably only a matter of time.
As a private, it is not subject to the the Cox statute.
As a private, liberty can set it's own admission standards, subject only to whatever accreditation standards it chooses to meet and the minimal NCAA proscriptions.
Liberty has already eclipsed ODU. If Liberty so chooses to emphasize athletics, it is only a matter of time, and a very short time at that, before it becomes the premier sports power in the Virginia, and likely beyond.

This is an absolutely absurd post.
Liberty AND lipscomb were both better than Odu this year.
They were both borderline top 50 net teams while we were barely top 100.
Either team would have won CUSA over Odu.
We had a great season but we got pounded by Purdue and we would likely lose to liberty or lipscomb (yay alliteration!).

RE: Athletically-is Liberty our Daddy?
Liberty’s strength of schedule was worse than ours. Their best win was Georgia State and a down UCLA. Played 4 DIII. Nice win over MIss St but it’s going to be ugly against Tech. We would beat Liberty.

RE: Athletically-is Liberty our Daddy?
Liberty is a good example of what’s wrong with the NET. People look at their NET of 58 and say they are borderline top 50 without knowing anything about them. Their SOS is 267. They played 4 DIII games. They only played 4 top 100 NET games. Lost2 and Two were Lipscome that also has an inflated NET. The NET rewards blowing out teams. Liberty is in a really bad league with a ton of cupcakes. Reality is they are probably a top 100. I agree with the person that said if Liberty was in CUSA they wouldn’t be in the dance, probably not even a Pod 1 team
Edit: I meant to say Liberty is probably closer to a 150 team

Geez Some of you need to stop jerking off to Liberty. They have money but money alone can’t get everything done. That being said **** the falwells.

2 wins over lipscomb, UCLA, ga state (ncaa tourney team) and then beating miss st. in the tourney.
They are a solid team.
Our ooc sos wasn’t much better. Bottom line is they upset a good sec team in the first round and we got owned by a big 10 team. They earned an 11 seed and we looked over seeded as a 14.
Tech should beat them though.

Exactly Plus, they’re new money. They don’t have the rich basketball history we enjoy.

Liberty athletics is better than ODU athletics, but ODU football is better than Virginia Tech football and ODU basketball is better than Syracuse basketball.

If only athletic programs are judged based on a single season but we will see how things pan out going forward. I sincerely wish our admin has the guts to spend some money on both FB and BB. Anyways calling them our daddy is quite a stretch.
