RE: Athletically-is Liberty our Daddy?
Of course they are not our Daddy, but they are surely gaining on us. They have all the resources money can buy and don’t have the State legislature fighting them and holding them back. They’ll be as good as they want to be and they can afford. The school has vision. They openly state their goal to be the Protestant Notre Dame. I respect them chasing big dreams. I wish ODU would do, instead of just accepting their place because the state says they have to. We just have to step it up. I’m tired of excuses. There is no reason ODU can’t strive to be VT of the east, no reason we should be behind GMU in academic rankings, no reason our hoops program can’t be better than VCU, no reason we can’t have facilities like JMU other than small time thinking and not trying harder.

If only athletic programs are judged based on a single season but we will see how things pan out going forward. I sincerely wish our admin has the guts to spend some money on both FB and BB. Anyways calling them our daddy is quite a stretch.

That was the joke. Can’t use one season to judge athletic superiority. Liberty doesn’t have much history in the main sports, and Nile they may make their way there with unabashed spending and embracing dubious figures like Briles and Freeze, they’re not there yet.

Knowing your sense of humor i didn't take it as a serious opinion. I knew you were kidding kinda.

This is the type of response my obviously facetious post hoped to create. Get angry, through anger you get change. ODU needs change throughout the entire athletic program. Was in Hartford Thursday night...it was embarrassing.

One thing you have to realize is that message board anger really doesn’t translate into anything unless we have a high dollar donor on this board who can convey it to the admin. If you are like most of us low to mid level donors who typically contribute bwetween 100 to 5000 you might not be able to get their attention with this kinda thread. Money talks.

Agreed. I know CUSA rejected the flames (for obvious reasons) but I would have welcomed them had I known they could field such a competitive bball team. I didn’t want them just for a football rivalry.

Liberty and Lipscomb both would have won CUSA this year.

Would have been interesting to see how they would have handled the travel and other unique challenges of CUSA. Guess we’ll never know. Looking forward to the Hokies rolling the farwells tomorrow.

I like Liberty. Should be in CUSA.

They'll lose to the Hokies but their BB team is pretty good and would fair well in CUSA.

12th in FG%, 49th in 3pt FG%

Interesting how two people can watch the same thing and see them differently. I was in Hartford Thursday night too. Monarchnation showed up and cheered loudly for the team. Yes, we were outplayed and (perhaps) outcoached and we lost the game, but I was never embarrassed.

CUSA - 8 20 win teams 4 under .500
A10 - 4 20 win teams 6 under .500
CAA - 3 20 win teams 6 under .500

I’m not saying CUSA doesn’t have a long way to go but a lot of teams have stepped up from how bad they used to be. Now if teams stop playing D2 teams and UTEP and Charlotte pull their heads out of their asses maybe we could have a good league.

I thought about that. But I think I'd rather have it be Liberty than VT. I dislike the Hokies even more. The Monarchs day has to come sometime. As long as we get back to the dance in the next few seasons anything can happen.
