Can somebody fill a non-basketball guy in on what happened? It sounds like the CBI is a post-season tournament that's embarrassing to play in? Did Aresco say something like no AAC teams would lower themselves to such a tournament?
If so, I don't see the harm. With the B12 and Big East also throwing teams in, it seems like USF is in halfway decent company.
This reminds me of when the trolls come on and try to get us in on a G4+AAC football playoff. If it's G4 only, it's obviously a non-starter. If college football had a secondary playoff that, for instance, included teams ranked 5-10 (i.e. all conferences potentially involved), I wouldn't have an issue with one or two of our teams playing in it.
That seems like what's going on here, so what's the problem?

It's not that it's embarrassing, it's that you have to pay $50K to play in the CBI, and I assume something for the CIT, as well.
I wish I could recall if Aresco gave any explanation about not wanting AAC teams in those 2 tournaments, but if he did, it's so long ago I can't recall any explanation. But the not playing stuck with me.

Is it played at a neutral venue, on the individual campuses? Just curious whether the teams have a reasonable expectation of making money despite the 50k buy-in.

Individual campuses. I bought a couple of tickets to Wednesday's game vs. Stony Brook (who lost their coach and is playing with an interim - not sure if that helps or hurts...).

It's not embarrassing since nobody pays attention to it anyway. Kind of like farting when you're alone.

Unless you lose to team you shouldn't, then it becomes a shart. Doesn't matter whether you are alone or not, that's nasty.

Weird thing is that in these kind of tournaments there's no team you should lose to ---- but they're playing each other. It's a battle to discover the best of the bad.
These tournaments typically have a purpose. Wvu is all freshman basically and took a beating this year, but they do have a bright future, the rest of their team was kicked off, injured, etc.. so that’s why they are in. Marshall got in basically for Elmore to break scoring record. USF probably has a reason as well, young team or something. It does have a bad look, but it can be very beneficial to some teams. So you weigh the look vs the benefits and no dictator should have a say so, it should be up to the school and the players.

Don't I remember ECU winning the CBI tournament a few years ago?
Congrats to the 4 in the NCAA, and 2 in the NIT. Nicely done!
CIT as part of CUSA. Actually, during Lebo's tenure we went to the CIT 3 times and won the whole thing the 2nd trip against Weber State on a last second 3 by Akeem Richmond.

You're all welcome to
This season represented to first sign of life from a team that had been left for dead for half a decade. If this provides something to build from and gets people excited enough to actually start showing up to the Yuengling Center, that $50K will be money well spent.

Haha.....sensitive much.
There is nothing about this tournament that is exciting, but please proceed.

Yep. USF is just doing this for a school rights movement...

Fine, we'll pee all over the place. Just don't be too embarassed when you all trip and fall in in our pee. Granted, with UCF we understand that urine is essentially the tone of their colors, so when they're busy misusing taxpayer funds again, it won't look any different since they'll already be filthy from the slip, fall, and beat down we give next year.
I don't get why people hate on these tournys so much. When the NIT cut it's field and added autobids there was probably 20 quality teams that used to get to the NIT cut by that. Teams that are actually better than many of the NIT and NCAA participants.
If these tournys could consolidate into one tourny and the best teams still agreed like in the early years of the CBI when it was the only one it could be a good tourny. The Weber State team we beat in the CIT had like near 30 wins and near 10k fans in the stands for a national TV game that game if memory serves me correctly and they had like 5 top 100 RPI teams in that tourny field and I think one or two around 50 RPI. It didn't feel small fry. It's got such a bad reputation from fans now that they have to take some 200 RPI teams though and it really only hurts teams by not having another place to go. Not much different than a lower tier bowl.

Weber State was 30-6 and they had 10,583 fans at that championship game.
I don't care what league you are in if you can win 30 games and put 10k fans in an arena that's pretty legit. Granted I might not feel the same about our experience in the tourny had it been some crappy team with 2000 fans like it seems like populate these tournys today but these tournys had potiental at one time if teams and fans had embraced them better and had they didn't dilute themselves by making 2 or 3 or whatever there is now.
Kind of sad honestly in the early years it was a pretty good stepping stone for champs the prior year usually going on to better things they year after. I think ODU won then was in the NCAA, Mercer won then was in the NCAA upsetting Duke. Butler played in it the year after back to back national championship games etc. Now pretty much no one will play in them I guess.
