Arizona has the academics, Arizona State has the location and the better football program.
Arizona, ASU, and Utah are always in consecutive order on ARWU rankings. There really is not much to the perceived academic gap. There are a lot more PAC alumni in the Phoenix metro than in Tucson, and Phoenix is also way easier for travel. ASU-Utah is also becoming the rivalry that Utah-Colorado was supposed to be.
But honestly, I wouldn’t care if we played Colorado the last game of the season every year with both of us hoping to get our first conference win if it meant college football could be rebalanced with a strong western conference. Only condition would be acquiring the WAC name.
The WAC
East: A&M, UT, OU, Ark, Mizzou, KU, Neb, CU.
West: UW, UO, Cal, Furd, USC, UCLA, ASU, UU.
B1G refills with UVA, UNC, Duke.
SEC refills with VT, NCST, FSU, Miami, Clemson.
ACC backfills with WVU and AAC schools.
PAC and BigXII merge and fill with MWC schools.
Then there’s a 75-80 school P5 breakaway.
So I wanted to see this out...
PAC

*I like Utah but I think the get left out for the other Arizona school
