Not enthusiastic about hiring a MSU or UM assistant. Would prefer someone with head coaching experience at lower levels.
I'd be okay with it although Alexander was once an up and comer until he became head coach at U of D. I'd like a guy who has experience recruiting Div I caliber instate players as well as Midwestern states.

Dear emu79,
Didn't Ben Braun come from Siena Heights right to Eastern as head coach, or am I forgetting something?

He did Ken. But I don't expect lightening to strike twice. Also Braun had an excellent staff of assistants.
Of course it all may come down to $$$ and what the school can afford or can't afford.

He did NOT. He came as an assistant coach and moved over when the head coach I think resigned. This was during the season. The following is from Wikipedia:
Prior to the 1985–86 season, Braun took on the position of associate head coach at Eastern Michigan. Midway through the year, on January 15, 1986, he was elevated to interim head coach. Within two years his Hurons (Eagles from 1991 onwards) were in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. During his 11 years at Eastern Michigan, he guided the Eagles to four postseason berths, including three NCAA appearances. Braun accumulated a record of 185–132 and was named Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year three times. His 185 wins are the most by a coach in Eastern Michigan Eagles men's basketball history.[4]

Steve, are you saying AFTER Braun was head coach he didn't have good assistant coaches on his staff because that's what I am referring to. But yes on the lightening striking twice, Braun according to your post was an "accident" being named head coach as opposed to be hiring head coach.

Apparently not Ken, I thought so too but Steve is correcting our recollections.

RE: New Thread Head Men's Basketball Coaches
I get this thread irritates certain people and I have to admit there is a part of me that hopes Murphy wins the MAC tournament and we go to the NCAAs as any other chance of another post season tourney is gone. Unfortunately that isn't likely to happen no matter how much I wish it would. Murphy had some wonderful seasons and a lot of unfulfilled ones like the Raven Lee, Toney Mangum senior team and this year's team. I would agree that if Murphy is at .500 or above at the end of this season he is probably back next year and will be a lame duck. I don't think based on the current composition of the Regents that you will find much support for Murphy but they love not spending money when they don't have to so Murphy may be back for economic reasons. I really don't have any faith left that Murphy will take this team where we would all like it to be. I started this thread because whether Murphy doesn't come back this year or after next year a change is needed. Yeah maybe Murphy wins 20 next year I guess anything can happen right?
